LONDON, ONT. --
Canadian Cedars of Hope (CCOH) a group consisting of mostly members in London Ont., held a donation drive to provide emergency aid for Lebanon and its people.
Donations were dropped off by community members at their Southdale Road east building Sunday afternoon.
The items will be sent to those in Lebanon who are still recovering from the Explosion in Beirut.
The founder of CCOH, Majida Zabian, said she created the group on August 4, 2020 after a massive explosion rocked Beirut, flattening much of its city's port, damaging buildings across the capital.
"We came together after the explosion that was shown world-wide. We realized how fortunate we are to be living in Canada and have all that we have while people are suffering."

Despite 30 area schools with active COVID-19 cases, officials say schools remain safe

LONDON, ONT. --
School and health officials say classrooms remain safe, even with active COVID-19 cases in 30 London-area schools.
According to the Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB) website, there are currently 26 schools in the region with at least one or more active COVID-19 cases, but only a small fraction have led to outbreaks.
Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) Medical Officer of Health Dr. Chris Mackie says the region has not really seen much spread in schools.
"The vast majority of cases diagnosed in school were acquired at home. We've seen very little transmission within schools, really only a handful of cases among the tens of thousands of students that have been in school for the last two months, so schools are not a place of high transmission in this area."

April ushers in the season of construction as work officially begins on BRT

LONDON, ONT. --
The signs of spring are all around with warmer weather, flowers blooming, birds chirping, and the return of construction projects.
Yes, the season of construction is upon us once again, and this year it will see one of the City’s most talked about (and debated) initiatives finally break ground.
Phase one of the Downtown Loop of London’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) plan is set to begin.
Last week CTV News reported on the final use of the King Street bike lane through the downtown corridor as crews prepared to shut it down for construction.
The City’s BRT plan has undergone several changes over the years and was greatly scaled back from the original vision.

Sixth COVID-19 outbreak declared in Western University residence

MIDDLESEX CENTRE, ONT. --
Less than a week after a COVID-19 outbreak at Essex Hall was declared over, there is another outbreak at the Western University residence.
The Middlesex-London Health Unit declared a new outbreak at the residence on Sunday with approximately five cases.
That leaves six residences at Western in outbreak, with other active outbreaks at Elgin Hall, Ontario Hall, Saugeen-Maitland Hall, Medway-Sydenham Hall and Delaware Hall.
Just a handful of residences at the school, Lambton Hall, Perth Hall, Alumni Hall and London Hall, remain outbreak free.
There are also several community outbreaks associated with Western.
One outbreak is among facilities staff at the school, another was associated with a gathering of business students and a third with a series of parties in early March.
