Why does Runcie walk away with so much Broward taxpayer money?

BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. – Nearly three weeks after Robert Runcie was arrested on a perjury charge, and a day before his scheduled arraignment, taxpayers learned they will be shelling out more than three-quarters of a million dollars to the outgoing Broward County Public Schools superintendent.
The $754,900 total was reached in a mutual separation agreement that the school board approved by a narrow 5-4 vote Tuesday afternoon. Runcie previously had two more years on his contract.
So why is the county on the hook for all that money?
Board chair Dr. Rosalind Osgood noted that the district could have been looking at a payout of $2 million under the first offer from Runcie’s attorney, which would have covered the rest of that contract.

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – With every American 16 and older now eligible for a vaccine nationwide — and half of U.S. adults already receiving at least one COVID-19 shot — the key conversation in battling the pandemic shifts to vaccine hesitancy.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services estimates that nearly 19% of people in Miami-Dade are hesitant, while in Broward that figure is almost 20%.
A “strongly hesitant” group is estimated at 9% in both counties.

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – A 4-year-old boy who was riding in an SUV with his mother died after a small plane struggling to return to a South Florida airport crashed into them on a residential street, officials said.
The boy, Taylor Bishop, and two people on the plane died in the Monday afternoon crash, which was recorded by a neighbor's security camera, fire officials said. The boy's mother, Megan Bishop, was also injured, but was released from the hospital later Monday, Pembroke Pines Fire Chief Marcel Rodriguez told news outlets.

NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. – One of the newest groups eligible in Florida to receive a COVID-19 vaccine are those 18 or older deemed by a physician to have a high-risk medical condition. Earlier in the week, state planners said that the only form that would be accepted at the FEMA sites where those meeting that requirement would be inoculated required the Department of Health’s Determination of Extreme Vulnerability form.
On a Friday afternoon briefing, a change was announced. While Thursday it was hammered home a doctor’s note on letterhead or prescription from a physician’s pad would not be acceptable — that restriction has now changed and those forms of eligibility will be accepted.

DORAL, Fla. – Police are on alert across the country for the possibility of more violence after last week’s mob attack on the Capitol in Washington, D.C., and that includes here in South Florida.
Miami-Dade County police are remaining vigilant to keep the community safe in case there is any threat of political violence, although they have no information of an imminent attack. Meanwhile, they are sending a specialized unit of 45 trained officers from the department to Washington, D.C., to help with the security efforts next week surrounding the inauguration.

MIAMI – In the wake of the siege on the US Capitol, President Donald Trump was permanently banned from Twitter and blocked on several other social media sites.
Alternative sites like Parler are also being shut down, but according to legal experts, social media bans don’t violate the first amendment.
“It may be unwise to exclude some people from those platforms,” said attorney and medial law professor at Syracuse’s Newhouse School of Public Communications Nina Brown. “The first amendment allows Twitter to decide how it wants to speak.”
