they are refusing to leave saying this is the last day of president mubarak s rule. they say they won t go until he goes. today, the military is letting the protests play out, but locking down tahrir square. troops strung barbed wire across the streets and put up security checkpoints. people stood in long lines and were forced to show i.d. inside tahrir square, protesters are surrounded by burned out cars, armed with rocks and metal shields to fend off attacks. yesterday violence erupted in the square. heavy gunfire heard across cairo. journalists also under attack. this is a violation of international norms that guarantee freedom of the press and it is unacceptable under any circumstances. protesters claim mubarak s supporters sent paid thugs and plain clothes cops into the crowd to cause chaos. this is what they do. the demonstrators not only want mubarak to step down, they want him gone from egypt. mubarak says he s fed up and has intention of quitting before ....
