Dating back to 1921, the Pacific Palisades has been home to intellectuals and Hollywood celebrities for decades.
Larry David, Ben Affleck and Arnold Schwarzenegger - who went on to become California’s governor - are among the stars who have made the town with a three-mile coastline their home.
More secluded than areas like Beverly Hills, the town - which has a population of just under 30,000 - is a haven of tranquility.

California Wildfires Triple Amid Drought After Record 2020 Fire Season

California Wildfires Triple Amid Drought After Record 2020 Fire Season
On 5/19/21 at 7:34 AM EDT
The flames that burned more than 1,300 acres in Los Angeles County over the weekend served as a reminder to California residents that wildfires have become a constant threat rather than a concern relegated to the officially recognized wildfire season of the late summer and fall months.
By early May, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) reported at least 9,392 acres burned since the start of the year—more than three times the five-year average Cal Fire reported over the same time period in previous years. The number of acres burned so far this year exceeded 13,900 when combined with the number of burned acres reported by Cal Fire's partner agencies.

CALIFORNIA — Gov. Gavin Newsom unveiled a cascade of new spending last week to render aid to some of California's most impacted residents as they emerge from the state's waning coronavirus crisis.
The proposed spending includes an ambitious $100 billion relief package made possible by a striking $267.8 billion budget and another $27 billion in pandemic aid from the federal government.

Skelton: Newsom unveils go-big-or-go-home California budget

SACRAMENTO —
Some California political jockeying last week reminded me of a classic scene from the first Indiana Jones movie.
In 1981‘s “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” a scary, robed swordsman whirls his shiny machete-like weapon, preparing to duel the seemingly defenseless Indiana, played by Harrison Ford. Instead, Indiana calmly draws a pistol and drops the flashy swordsman.
Those amusing theatrics came to mind as Gov. Gavin Newsom whirled around the state unveiling one big-bucks program after another as part of his $100-billion “California Comeback Plan.”
One highlight was the governor’s proposal to send everyone earning between $30,000 and $75,000 a $600 “tax rebate.” People earning less than $30,000 already have gotten $600 from a previous state stimulus. All tax filers making less than $75,000 with a dependent would receive an extra $500.

California Comeback Plan Includes Increases for Fish and Wildlife

California Comeback Plan Includes Increases for Fish and Wildlife
Governor Gavin Newsom today introduced his California Comeback Plan, which includes significant fiscal resources aimed to protect California’s diverse fish, wildlife and plant resources and the habitats on which they depend. The proposed budget increases show the Newsom Administration is deeply invested in California’s biodiversity both for its intrinsic, ecological value as well as for future generations of hunters, hikers, anglers, birders and outdoor enthusiasts.
The proposal increases the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) budget by $252.1 million and includes funds to safeguard California’s biodiversity, protect endangered species and their habitats, support the Cutting the Green Tape initiative, enhance drought preparedness through the water resilience package, increase renewable energy on land and in the ocean, cover payments for fishermen and women voluntarily transitioning out of the drift gill net shark and swordfish fishery, and address other CDFW’s budget shortfalls identified through years of in-depth budget analysis and research through the Service Based Budgeting (SBB) Project. Today’s proposal includes 216 staff positions to deliver services and safeguard fish and wildlife in California.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California would embark on the most ambitious era of government spending since its boom times of the mid-20th century under the budget proposed Friday by Gov.
