UCC Lecturer Considered Leaving Ireland Due To The Level Of Racist Abuse He Faces Here

UCC Lecturer Considered Leaving Ireland Due To The Level Of Racist Abuse He Faces Here
Amanullah De Sondy says he has experienced a severe backlash since highlighting the racism he receives.
The lecturer in Contemporary Islam at University College Cork now fears it is creeping into politics, and believes far-right groups are becoming more organised.
Amanullah says there needs to be more conversation on the issue throughout all aspects of society:
"It's difficult to actually put into words, the type of abuse that's kind of constant that I get, especially online, it fits the character for a lot of kind of racist abuse that people are getting- If you're an immigrant to Ireland, you should shut up you should sit back, you should just accept the you know your position, look, I think we need to put this into context and the context is that there really is a pandemic on a pandemic."
