Way Station to use grant on homeless study

CONWAY â The Way Station, a day resource center for the areaâs homeless population, plans to use a $10,000 grant from the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation to study emergency housing options, say board members Jeannette Heidmann and the Revs. Nathan Hall and Gail Doktor.
Doktor, pastor of the Jackson Community Church, said she and Hall, pastor of the Lutheran Church of the Nativity in North Conway, along with treasurer Heidmann and other volunteers, founded The Way Station two years ago as a way to address the needs of the homeless in the Mount Washington Valley.
According to Heidmann, who wrote the grant application along with fellow board member Julie Bosak, the recently received grant âwill enable the development and refinement of a long-range strategic plan with particular emphasis toward examining and developing housing options for those experiencing homelessness or housing insecurities.â

Twenty dollars is too much. But almost every town that I can think of you have to pay somewhere for parking of some sort. It's just the way it is. I don't know why we don't enforce the two-hour parking in the village like they used to, or why we don't have parking meters to generate money for this area. This town is getting worse by the day. The locals are being pushed out. There's no place to live. Sure, I could go down to First Bridge if I wanted to, but why would I want to do that during the busy season? Thank God I have my secret spot.

There were over 50 responses to this weekâs Tele-Talk question, âWhat do you think about the town charging $20 and having attendants collect fees at three recreation sites?â with 17 in favor of the fee and 30 against it. Eight responses didn't answer the question directly.
If the intent is to subject visitors to a "little pain," then $20 will be just that â "little pain," especially with government giving away money periodically. If the intent is to prevent visitors from utilizing these access points, then a simple sign stating "Residents Only" is suggested with $100 fines for first time offenders, increasing as multiple infractions occur!
