The mayor of Lebanon and two city council members say Gov. Mike DeWine’s plan to award $1 million to five vaccinated Ohioans through a lottery is “using our tax dollars in this way is definitely unethical and likely criminal.”
Lebanon Mayor Amy Brewer, Vice Mayor Mark Messer and Councilman Doug Shope made the allegations in a letter to DeWine sent Thursday.

TIPP CITY — Voters in Tipp City will decide May 4 whether to continue an income tax for capital improvements for another 10 years.
The first 10 years was highlighted by projects such as a fire department ladder truck, expanding the fire/EMS station on West Main Street, downtown restrooms and numerous street update and paving projects, among others.
The ballot request calls for continuation of a 0.25 percent income tax that expires this June 30 and another 0.25 percent income tax that expires Dec. 31, 2022. The 0.25 percent requests would be effective July 1, 2020, and Jan. 1, 2023, respectively.

How healthy are our local waterways and what's being done to protect them?

How healthy are our local waterways and what’s being done to protect them?
Ismail Turay Jr.
Runoffs carrying contaminants from agricultural and urban development throughout Southwest Ohio are flowing into the region’s waterways, and experts say that threatens the aquatic ecosystem, drinking water, human life and infrastructure.
The problem will hit taxpayers and property owners in the pocketbooks to the tune of millions of dollars if more is not done to reduce those storm water runoffs, experts say.
“One way or another, we’re going to pay for having unhealthy streams, because if you show me an area where the streams are not doing well, then I’m going to show you an area that has probably a lot of bank erosion problems, or possibly having to deal with going in and fixing roads that are washing out and people’s backyards eroding,” said hydrologist Mike Ekberg, manager for water resource monitoring and analysis at the Miami Conservancy District.

Business Week in Review: $265M mixed-use development proposed in Springboro

Business Week in Review: $265M mixed-use development proposed in Springboro
Business Staff
A working farm that has been in the hands of one of Springboro’s original founding families for five generations is envisioned to become a $265 million mixed-use development in the middle of the city.
Two developers want to build a development on the Easton Farm, a 105-acre parcel of land on the west side of North Main Street/Ohio 741, that would include a commercial district, parks, walking/biking paths, multi-family housing, an independent living center, townhomes and single-family homes.
Dillin LLC, a Springboro-based development company, and Borror, a Columbus-based developer specializing in multi-family properties, have submitted an application for the rezoning of the land that sits between Anna Drive and Tamarack Trail.

National Inventors' Day: 5 patents that show the innovative genius of Daytonians

National Inventors’ Day: 5 patents that show the innovative genius of Daytonians
Lisa Powell
Today, Feb. 11, is National Inventors’ Day — as proclaimed by then-president Richard Nixon in 1973 — and it’s the perfect time to call attention to the creative genius from the Gem City that helped revolutionize the world.
Dayton, a hotbed of ingenuity, was known as the invention capital of the United States in the early 1900s.
Local inventors drew up patent applications and submitted them in droves, each one accompanied by illustrations that are an artistry of detail in and of themselves
At first glance, the carefully drawn object in each illustration seems familiar, but it can take careful study to recognize the often everyday objects in a new perspective.

Experts: Test for these toxins regularly if your drinking water comes from a well

Experts: Test for these toxins regularly if your drinking water comes from a well

Most water from the region’s large underground aquifer is safe to drink untreated, but homeowners might not always be aware of all the potential contaminants, including “forever chemicals” that do not have a color, taste or smell.
Such was the case recently in Butler Twp., Montgomery County, when Earl Moyer and some of his neighbors said they learned about the chemicals known as PFAS for the first time after high levels were detected at nearby Aullwood Audubon Farm Discovery Center in October. Health officials sent letters to 180 homeowners nearby, urging them to test their wells for PFAS.
