Stena Europe's Fishguard - Rosslare crossings still suspended

The sight of the Stena Europe departing from Fishguard Harbour will not be seen until June 4, the company says PICTURE: Fishguard and Goodwick Chamber of Trade and Tourism
SAILINGS from Fishguard to Rosslare continue to be suspended as the Stena Europe's stay in dry dock is extended to June 4.
As reported last week by the Western Telegraph the Irish Sea crossing was temporarily cancelled, initially until May 22.
Stena said that it had been decided to send the vessel for repair at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, following a routine inspection of the ferry.
It was initially anticipated that the repairs would be completed by May 21 and the ferry back on the run by the 22.

“IT DOESN’T SEEM reasonable to expect fully vaccinated people to wait for the digital green certificate before allowing freedom from the current pre-arrival PCR and quarantine requirements”, Transport Minister Eamon Ryan has said.
In what is being viewed as a suggestion that fully vaccinated people could be given the go ahead to travel before the EU Green Cert becomes operational, Ryan said the certificate might only come into play in mid-August.

"Unimpeded" travel abroad without tests or quarantining could return by July, says Stephen Donnelly | JOE is the voice of Irish people at home and abroad

Speaking on Ireland AM on Tuesday he said: "I do, I do, I hope so. Now there are no government decisions have been made on this. We're meeting on Friday morning.
"The Digital Green Certificate is something that the Government supports, and the Digital Green Certificate works on the basis that if you've been fully vaccinated - and there are other options as well you can have, which different member states will look at.
"For me, the big point of it is saying if you're fully vaccinated you can travel within the EU unimpeded, so that is no pre-flight PCR, it's no hotel quarantine, and critically, it's no home quarantine either."

Leo Varadkar says international travel between UK and Ireland likely to be "first step"

Speaking on KCLR's The Bottom Line on Sunday, the Tánaiste said that free travel between Ireland the UK would be likely to come first during the reopening of aviation due to the low incidence and high vaccination rates in Britain.
When asked about a timeline for reopening the Tánaiste said that travel to the UK could come before the full introduction of the European Green Certificate that would see travel to more countries in the EU becoming a possibility.
He said: "If I was to give an indication as to where I think it will go, I think it might be the common travel area first, so allowing people to travel freely between Britain and Ireland," he said.

Baylis & Kofler: What to consider if planning vaccination certificates

Article content
In late April, European Union member states agreed on the technical specifications for their proposed Digital Green Certificate. This certificate, often colloquially described as a vaccine passport, aims to restore free and safe movement within the European Union.
Within days of this news, the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, suggested in a New York Times interview that European Union borders could also be open to vaccinated American tourists this summer. Canadian reporters swiftly turned to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to ask about the use of vaccination certificates for international travel.
