With swirling news of the delta variant, “breakthrough COVID,” and booster shots, it’s natural to wonder if you’re really doing everything you can to protect yourself and those around you. And while it’s important for fully vaccinated individuals to keep following CDC protocol, wearing masks when needed, and staying alert in a crowd, one thing you shouldn’t worry about is whether you’re vaccinated

NYC nurse receives first COVID vaccine
A critical care nurse from Queens was the first person to receive the coronavirus vaccine in the United States.
NEW YORK - The Smithsonian s National Museum of American History has acquired the vial that contained the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine administered in the United States as part of its plans to document the global pandemic and this extraordinary period we were going through.
The acquisition, along with other materials related to that first vaccine dose, was announced by the museum on Tuesday to mark the upcoming one-year anniversary of the pandemic. Associated Press journalists were given an exclusive backstage look at the newly obtained materials, which include vials, special shipping equipment and the medical scrubs and ID badge of the New York City nurse who was America s first coronavirus vaccine recipient.

Will COVID-19 vaccines work on the new coronavirus variant?
Experts believe so, but they re working to confirm that.
A coronavirus variant in the United Kingdom has caused alarm because of the possibility that it might spread more easily. But even if that turns out to be true, experts say the COVID-19 vaccines being rolled out will likely still work on the variant.

Moderna submits data to FDA showing vaccine can potentially prevent infection, not just severe disease

Vaccine maker Moderna says its coronavirus shots don’t just prevent symptomatic disease, but can prevent infection in the first place.
The company has submitted to the US Food and Drug Administration with the extra claim – which would give it a leg up on rival Pfizer, which has been able to demonstrate only that its vaccine prevents symptomatic infection, including severe disease. It had not been clear from initial data if either the Moderna or Pfizer vaccines prevented infection completely.
