SPEARVILLE, KAN., (JULY 19, 2021) – Lead For America and Land O’Lakes, Inc. today announced the placement of three American Connection Corps (ACC) Fellows in Kansas. These fellows will work to increase broadband access and digital literacy as well as contribute to critical community development initiatives in Wabaunsee County and Wichita.
The American Connection Corps is a new, innovative fellowship program focused on bridging the digital divide, led by Land O’Lakes and Lead For America (LFA). As part of the national network, ACC Fellows will have access to premiere national training on community organizing, broadband and digital inclusion, and a network of LFA leaders nationwide. Over the course of the application window, the program received hundreds of applications from emerging leaders across the country. After an extensive interview process, the Fellows program has selected 50 individuals to serve as community leaders across the country.

The city of Wichita is asking residents, especially people living in the North End area of the city, to submit recommendations for the name of a new community center that is under construction.
The community center is being built at the Evergreen Branch Library at 2601 North Arkansas, and it will combine the library with the Evergreen Neighborhood Resource Center, the group Empower Evergreen and several other community organizations.
Library spokesman Sean Jones said name ideas can be submitted to the web site www.wichita.gov/Council/Pages/EvergreenNaming.aspx The deadline for submitting the ideas will be June 4th. The Library Board of Directors will come up with five names, and the public will be able to rank their preferred choices. The board will talk about the top options in August, and recommendations will be presented to the City Council in September.
