Heavy rain but not until 11 oclock this morning and that ice really piled up. This is what happened in the upper levels of the atmosphere. We had snow falling high in the atmosphere but then a very big warm layer changing to it rain. With those southerly winds we expect they had rain to work its way to the surface but that cold air at the surface made that rain freeze on contact. Hence freezing rain.
