Developing news in campbell countythe abandoned dan river plant caught fire today in brookneal and it continues to burn at this hour. People who work in the area tell wfxr news they noticed the thick smoke around 3 this afternoon. According to the town manager, the plant has been closed for about 10 years and was major employer in the area. The plant has been empty since it closed and was in the process of being demolished. The fire shut down part of route 501 as crews worked to put out those flames. People we spoke with say the smoke changed from light to dark and ashes were falling from the sky. Its been black, black billowing smoke and then it looked like it lightened up. It seems to have picked up and right now it looks like its more black smoke coming. I looked like it blew up, i anything that close.
