It is with profound sadness, mr. Speaker, that i share the news that a great friend and Public Servant has passed away. Darell Ann Pennington was a dear friend, trusted member of my staff, and tireless advocate for marylands Fifth District. For the past 12 years he saved as a case worker in my office in green belt, maryland, serving prince georges county, culvert county and anne arundel county. She had worked for earl yes state senator. Mr. Speaker, she knew the Fifth District and communities better than almost anyone. And she cared deeply about the people who called, emailed, and wrote to us asking for assistance with federal agencies and help accessing government services. In particular, she was a fierce advocate for our district seniors. But she was also a mentor ....

In 2004, Michael Baxter became center and director for Health Program for youth and at the time of his death, he served as the director of Youth Services for primary care as well as director or Family Planning for both primary care and maternal and child health. Michael baxter touched people in his service and his life. He mentored advocates for many like him who were involved with many youth and families. Taja volunteered at a food pantry and Community Center and regularly attended meetings for causes she supported and she was committed to raising awareness to issues affecting the Transgender Community especially issues that involved health and disparity in that community. Taja was known for being a charismatic and out spoken person for life challenges. Taja loved music and fashion. She had a first job and was a fan of madonna and prince. She was strong, independent and selfless. She worked hard and never hesitated to give whatever she had to people. She will be remembered for here work, generosity her fighting spirit for social justice. Her mother described her as having been beautiful inside and out. Taja is the transgender woman of color.
