Who isn’t a fan of Johnny Depp’s Pirates Of The Caribbean film series? Well, that is one series fans love to watch again and again. Its previous entry, Curse of the Black Pearl, was a runaway hit at the box office, making a staggering $654 million at the box office on a $140 million budget. To date, there have been five Pirates of the Caribbean movies, with the original trilogy being directed by Gore Verbinski. Now the 56-year-old has opened up on the intense filmmaking journey which began with big doubts surrounding first movie The Curse of the Black Pearl and Johnny Depp’s Oscar-nominated performance as Jack Sparrow. While the original’s success led to the director living in “survival mode”, as he raced to meet the back-to-back sequels’ release dates even before the scripts had been written.

City of Lies trailer: Johnny Depp new movie follows Tupac and Biggie murder investigations

City of Lies, which was shot between 2016-2017, was originally given a release date of September 7, 2018, marking the 22nd anniversary of Tupac’s murder.
However, the movie was postponed and eventually premiered in 2019, out of competition, at the Italian Noir in Festival as the event’s closing film.
Depp’s movie then received a limited release in Italy including on Blu-ray in June later that year.
Now Saban Films have taken over the distribution rights, with City of Lies finally scheduled for a March 19, 2021 release followed by one on PVOD on April 9, 2021. While a UK release for the long-delayed crime thriller movie is yet to be announced.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Johnny Depp based his Jack Sparrow on now cancelled Pepé Le Pew

It turns out that The Rolling Stones rock star was rather taken by Depp’s clothing.
Jerry continued: “[Keith would] go into Johnny’s closet and try on his jackets and then he’d leave wearing Johnny’s jacket!”
Of course, Pirates fans will know that Richards ended up playing Captain Jack’s father in the third and fourth Pirates movies, At World’s End and On Stranger Tides.
His character was called Captain Edward Teague, the former pirate lord of Madagascar who became the keeper of the Pirate Code.

Meanwhile, The Beatles’ Sir Paul McCartney played Captain Jack’s Uncle Jack in the fifth Pirates movie, Salazar’s Revenge aka Dead Men Tell No Tales. He appeared locked in a cell singing Maggie May while playing poker.

Johnny Depp fans put on virtual Depp Movie Night to support Pirates of the Caribbean star

McNally made his comments during a chat with Ellis on the latter’s video podcast The Respondent.
The Mr Gibbs actor said:“ My dream is that some sort of link will be needed between what has been before and whatever bizarre incarnation of it there is to come.
“But I sincerely think that my fate is so tied in with Johnny’s that I will go with him, if indeed he does go.”
Asked if Depp’s Jack Sparrow should be in Pirates 6, McNally said: “Yes is the simple answer to that.”

McNally added: “My feelings about this are very complex because in a sense there was a slight feeling that the franchise itself had played out a little bit, so a reboot is a reasonable idea.

Johnny Depp has starred across five Pirates of the Caribbean movies to date, but following recent controversies, his future in Disney’s blockbuster franchise has been uncertain. Most recently the 57-year-old was asked to resign from the Fantastic Beasts movies after losing his libel trial, in which he strongly denies domestic abuse allegations. While even a cameo in the upcoming Margot Robbie-led Pirates spin-off is now looking even less likely.

Ellis continued: “I remember while filming one day, without me knowing during a scene, he had [his bodyguard] Jerry Judge move my chair next to his.”
“It was a subtle way of him bringing me in to get to know me, just to have a conversation. [He is] so down to earth.”
The 52-year-old also mentioned how his and Depp’s kids went to the same school and pointed out that the star surrounded himself with really good people.
He said of Depp’s inner circle: “They were really wonderful people, as were those around him.”
