About Grenada: Carriacou & Petite Martinique
Known as the “Land of Reefs”, Carriacou is the largest and believed to be most populated of the group of islands known as the Grenadines. It is located 12 28’N & 61 28’W and is a dependency of the State of Grenada. Carriacou is 13 sq miles and the highest point on the island is High North Peak, at a height of 956ft above sea level.
Like the island of Grenada, Carriacou was first inhabited by the Arawaks, then the Caribs from whom it got its name. The French eventually settled on the island, which was ceded to Britain in 1763. The population of approximately 6000 inhabitants, consists mainly of African descendants, some of whom can trace their ancestry back to the African tribes to which they belong.

Splurge or save: 'Green list' holidays for 2021

Will you splurge or save on your green list holiday?
It’s finally here: the restart of overseas holidays. After a long lockdown, and a lengthy ban on foreign breaks, May 17 tempts with a handful of green-list options.
British holidaymakers who’ve squirrelled away savings may be planning a blow-out trip to the first available destination. Indeed, in our snap poll of 500 Telegraph readers, some 72 per cent said they would splurge on travel this year.
Next week should offer up quarantine-free trips to Gibraltar, Portugal and Iceland (for the fully vaccinated). In the coming months, Caribbean Islands and perhaps even the US could be added into the mix.

The message is clear that teachers across the sister isles would not cease protesting until their demands on the Government are met.
Clad in red and holding several powerfully worded placards, members of the profes-sion were on Friday given added impetus to their march as they were joined by members of their union’s national executive led by President, Jude Bartholomew.
The teachers processed from the Hills-borough Playing Field through the streets of Hillsborough chanting and hooking horns.
They then returned to the playing field where Bartholomew addressed the exer-cise.

While there is no major alarm when it comes to using the seas around Carriacou and Petit Martinique, a local fisherman, last week discovered what may be of con-cern to most who use the sea for recreation and as a profession.
Allan Clement of L'Esterre said that he trapped a Hammerhead shark in his fishing net, which was placed in the waters between Jack Adam and Sandy Island in the foreshore of Hillsborough.
Clement who has been in the profession for well over 30 years said that the dis-covery was frightening although it wasn’t his first such finding.

Grenada prepares to welcome back UK visitors

Grenada is preparing for the reopening of the local tourism sector following a successful vaccination campaign.
The Caribbean destination, along with its sister islands of Carriacou and Petite Martinique, has already fully-vaccinated 70 per cent of hotel workers with the Astra-Zeneca vaccine.
The hidden gem of the eastern Caribbean, the small and idyllic island of Grenada, has focused on the protection of its citizens and visitors with the utmost level of responsibility, which will remain its highest priority.
This approach has paid dividends with the fact that, to date, Grenada and its sister islands have enjoyed one of the lowest rates of infections in the Caribbean with 160 Covid-19 cases, only one of which remains active to date.

Readout from NSC Spokesperson Emily Horne on National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan’s Call with CARICOM Leaders
The White House
National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan spoke on May 7 with Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretary General Irwin LaRocque and leaders from the CARICOM member states. Mr. Sullivan reaffirmed the Biden-Harris administration’s unwavering commitment to work together with the Caribbean region on managing the COVID-19 pandemic, advancing economic recovery, addressing climate change, and strengthening regional democracy and security. Following up on Secretary of State Blinken’s April 21 virtual roundtable with CARICOM Foreign Ministers, Mr. Sullivan proposed regular high-level U.S.-CARICOM engagement, including a meeting between the President and CARICOM heads of State. Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of St. Vincent & the Grenadines and foreign ministers from Antigua & Barbuda, the Bahamas, Belize, the Commonwealth of Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, St. Kitts & Nevis, Suriname, Trinidad & Tobago, along with the Permanent Secretary of Barbados and the Premier of Monserrat, participated in the call.

Here's a Complete List of Destinations Opening to Vaccinated Travelers

Travelers almost always have to be fully vaccinated — which is commonly defined as two weeks following the last required dose. However, several places allow travel the same day as a second shot.
All this is to say: Travelers should read the fine print before booking a trip abroad, which includes understanding Covid-19 protocols that may be stricter than what’s required at home.

The U.S. CDC may have eased mask rules for fully vaccinated Americans who are outside, but other places, such as Greece, have not.
A study by the rental search engine HomeToGo showed 54% of U.S. travelers plan on taking a trip within the first two months of getting vaccinated. Yet, the rise of Covid-19 variants is complicating matters.

NDC Statement on the Detention & Interrogation of Jude Bartholomew

NDC Statement on the Detention & Interrogation of Jude Bartholomew
NDC Statement on the Detention & Interrogation of Jude Bartholomew
Wednesday, 28 April 2021 00:00
The National Democratic Congress is in full solidarity with the President and Members of the Grenada Union of Teachers on the issue of the 4% salary increase that is contractually due to them, negotiated since 2017.
The detention and interrogation, for over 3 hours, of GUT President, Mr Jude Bartholomew, is not taken lightly. It is a clear indication of the dangerous direction Keith Mitchell and his NNP are headed, in their quest to silence the few Grenadians who stand up and fight against this dictatorial regime. Those who orchestrated the detention and interrogation of Mr Bartholomew, over the recent protests by the Teachers, must take note of the overwhelming voices of dissent from among ordinary Grenadians, and check themselves.
