At least when it came to Dan Blair, however, the Stanley native could rely on him to add comedic value to an otherwise tense moment. “I had my share of 5-for-5 games, 6-for-6 games. I never went 8-for-8 though, mostly because you don’t get that many opportunities to hit,” Rudisill said. “But the one time I did in 1977, I was playing for Howard & Carroll during a weeknight at East Lincoln Park. I batted left-handed and hit a ground ball to an area around shortstop that I believed would allow me to outrun the throw, and honestly I thought I beat it by a half-step or two.
