Manthani murders revive sickle's bloody past | Hyderabad News

P V Nagamani and Gattu Vamana Rao (File photo)
The double murder of advocate couple Gattu Vamana Rao and P V Nagamani in Manthani last month has brought back dreaded memories of the hunting sickle – the notorious murder weapon used widely across the Rayalaseema region.
Called Veta Kodavali in Telugu, the story of the sickle is closely related to the faction killings, that once shook the Seema region of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, and surfaced as the murder weapon in 90% of faction murder case charge sheets filed in this belt, over the last three decades or more.
This sickle has a long handle and a curved portion on top, which is about one or two inches in height.

Rs 22 crore for treating 2 children from Hyderabad: Crowdfunding only hope | Hyderabad News

Ayaansh, a girl who suffers from spinal muscular atrophy
HYDERABAD: Parents of two children from Hyderabad, suffering from spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) — one of the few rare diseases that can be treated — have turned to crowdfunding for financial help.
The cost of treatment, doctors say, is as high as Rs 22 crore (including Rs 16 crore for injection and Rs 6 crore for import duty).
Among those looking for support are three-year-old Ayaansh and seven-month-old Amayra Sheikh. Both have been detected with Type 1 SMA, which makes them almost completely immobile.
“Our baby is unable to even move or sit, but we are just thankful to have her around. Everyday is a struggle for us. I have started this fundraiser secretly without telling my family. I did not want to give any false hopes but I am praying every minute that some miracle happens and the fund target is met,” said Amayra’s father, Sheik Ali Edirush, an IT professional.

Indo-Pak war veteran drives auto in city for a living, wants govt to allot 2BHK house | Hyderabad News

Kareem says "there is no other choice for him but to drive the auto"
HYDERABAD: Despite being a venerated recipient of Star Medal for his contribution in the 1971 Indo-Pakistan war, a war veteran is driving an autorickshaw on Hyderabad roads for a living. Poverty, official apathy, financial crisis, Covid-19 pandemic and advancing age have left 71-year-old Sheikh Abdul Kareem crippled, but the ex-serviceman has not lost hope.
To keep his family up and running, Kareem drives an auto, which he has been doing for the last six years. The war veteran doesn’t own a home or a even piece of land. He manages to survive in a rented tenement in Rajendranagar with the earnings he makes from running his auto. After having tried his hand as a supervisor, security guard and car driver, the septuagenarian has only an auto to make ends meet.

40 sub-stations in Telangana too faced attack from Chinese hackers | Hyderabad News

Representative image
HYDERABAD: On a day central power minister RK Singh denied reports of Chinese cyberattacks leading to a major power outage in Mumbai last year, top Telangana electricity officials said they had received alerts about Chinese malware entering 40 sub-stations from the Central Electricity Authority.
Late on Monday evening, the CERT-In (Indian Computer Emergency Response Team) reported from a trusted source that China-based threat actor group command and control servers were trying to communicate with systems belonging to Telangana SLDC (State Load Dispatch Centre) and asked the Telangana power utilities to take all protection and safety measures.
The SLDC monitors power supply situation in the state and the malware had entered 40 substations, but efforts by the hackers were successfully thwarted by state government agencies. “After we got an alert from the central authorities, we have removed all malware in 40 substations in SLDC and strengthened our firewall. Telangana is one among seven states that Chinese hackers tried to communicate with the power systems,” Telangana Transco and Genco chairman and managing director D Prabhakar Rao told TOI on Tuesday.
