medical center. dr. siegel, you've been on top of this for us. i want to start with what is the latest you are hearing on this new concerning omicron variant? >> well, first of all, i didn't have, i want to set the scene with this by telling your viewers that there are thousands of variants that have emerged already with this virus, but there's only five that have been identified as variants of concern, and this is fifth. the world health organization seems to have been behind the delay on this again because by the time it was identified, it had already spread to several countries as you've just been reporting. it's been found in europe. i believe that it's very likely it's in the united states already. i think we're putting a travel advisory in effect, which is good, but i think it's probably too late to stop it from coming here. you should realize, griff, that we are not as on top of genetic sequencing here in the u.s. as they are in south africa or in the u.k. or even in europe. so a statement that it's not here yet isn't as reassuring as you would like it to be.
