Waukee man admits to defrauding investment clients

Waukee, IA- A central Iowa man has admitted to defrauding clients who hired them to be their financial advisor. Radio Iowa reports that 51-year-old William Berg of Waukee pleaded guilty to wire fraud and money laundering. Court records show he encouraged clients to withdraw money from their investment and financial accounts and transfer it to his accounts known as "W Holdings of Iowa" or "Excel Performance Management." The information shows over a four-year period Berg took one-point-five million dollars of clients' money and used it as his own to buy cars, jewelry, and other items. One purchase was a $37,000 engagement ring. He is scheduled to be sentenced October 11th.

United way of Southeast Iowa awarded Ride United: Last Mile Delivery Grant

Burlington, IA- The United Way of Southeast Iowa has been awarded the Ride United: Last Mile Delivery Grant. According to a news release the grant, totaling $8,650, is to support efforts to address food insecurity in the community. The grant will cover the cost of over 1,500 deliveries over the course of the next year, providing essential food items to those in need. The grant utilizes DoorDash to make deliveries, providing essential food items directly to those in need, while also creating economic opportunities for community members to earn income as delivery drivers via the DoorDash app. Ride United Last Mile Delivery was designed to fill the critical "last-mile" gap to accessing nutritious food and essential resources for clients who lack transportation. In partnership with DoorDash, Dashers make deliveries directly to households, meeting the needs of all family members. The RULMD Grant is part of a national initiative aimed at improving access to food and essential items for vulnerable populations.
