But after the dismal performance of 1997’s “Mortal Kombat : Annihilation” at the box office, let alone the ugly reaction to the film itself from both critics and fans of the series (heck, even the game’s co-creator Ed Boon hated it), it was no longer a given the “victorious” original would spawn a second sequel.

The 40-year-old actor was out promoting his upcoming role in the James Wan-produced “Mortal Kombat”, out next week, telling SiriusXM’s Clay Cane he would “honored and humbled” to play the “Exit Wounds” actor in a biopic. “Everybody talks about like, DMX is not the greatest rapper alive. I understand that. Everybody talks about Tupac. Everybody talks about Biggie. Everybody talks about Jay Z, Andre 3000, Eminem, Kendrick. Got it. But DMX spoke to me in a way that no other rapper did. It’s been a long time coming but the first Mortal Kombat trailer is finally here. Yep! Today we got our first look at the James Wan-produced adaptation of the brutal and beloved video game franchise. Frankly, we couldn’t be more excited. With the movie hitting HBO Max on April 16, we’ve been waiting on a trailer for a while. And it certainly didn’t disappoint. The trailer features all of our fave characters like Sub-Zero (Joe Taslim), Liu Kang (Ludi Lin), Kung Lao (Max Huang), Mileena (Sisi Stringer), Scorpion (Hiroyuki Sanada), Raiden (Tadanobu Asano), Sonya Blade (Jessica McNamee), Jax (Mehcad Brooks), and Kano (Josh Lawson).
