As part of security measures ahead of the Inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden, so-called “core areas” of the National Mall in Washington, D.C. will close to the public on Friday and remain closed until January 21, according to the National Park Service.

Jennifer Griffin reports from Capitol Hill on the security preparations. Two areas in downtown Washington, D.C., will be designated as "First Amendment zones" despite amplified security throughout the city and surrounding areas on Inauguration Day, the National Park Service said on Friday.  Most events throughout the city were canceled after numerous requests by the mayor and other officials, but two permits were granted to allow protests at the Navy Memorial and at John Marshall Park, both located along Pennsylvania Avenue, Jeff Reinbold, the superintendent of the National Park Service said...

The decision comes more than a week after a mob of President Donald Trump's supporters marched across the park and stormed the U.S. Capitol.
