seat. a russian sacoy fighter jet, flying past the navy destroyer in the black sea. 25 mimes off crimea but in international waters and this jet comes by. now, why did all of this happen? you know the navy is poking a little bit at moscow now saying that the wings of the jet was, in the pentagon's word naked. what do they mean? the plane was not armed. this was not a military confrontation. this is more of a political confrontation, if you will. there were no missiles under the wings. no weapons onboard the airplane. the navy ship saw this coming at a distance, and filmed it. the pentagon deciding to release it, because the russians after this suddenly start talking in their media how they chased off a u.s. navy destroyer in the black sea. the navy says the "uss ross"

the next day, there were some people here to pick us up. we thought it was going to be the red cross, but it was a colombian priest and a nun from a convept. i hadn't really gotten time to think about what had happened. i was still wound up. it's a huge continual emotion, like dread and then relief. i felt like there was going to be a point where i would have to dump all this stress and anxiety i was feeling, but at that point i was hanging in there, i think. i was hanging in there. we were out of the jungle and we were definitely in colombia. the u.s. embassy sent this jet for us, and then same day, they fly us to bogota.

CNN Newsroom With Fredricka Whitfield-20150530-16:25:00

on friday morning. the jet had to climb 200 feet. the drone was flying about 2700 feet, way too high way too close to an airport. right now the faa is trying to figure out who is responsible. let's bring in analyst from boston a former assistant secretary for the department of homeland security. let me ask you, i mean officials say a drone getting sucked into a jet's engines could have catastrophic consequences. what do you make of that? >> i think that's absolutely right. just the number of drones and people have this image of what a drone is they think it's a missile going off in afghanistan afghanistan, drone means unmanned aerial instrument so anyone can get one of them. a drone in an engine hitting the wrong part of an airplane whether a large commercial plane or small one, would cause significant damage. so it's terrifying incidents because they are so avoidable.

Vital Signs with Dr. Sanjay Gupta-20150530-18:30:00

imagine a science laboratory that teaches us more than we've ever known about disease, muscle and bone health and eyesight. a lab with the unique environment that affects the human body in ways we've never seen before. in fact there's no place like it in the entire world. that's because this lab doesn't exist on earth. this is "vital signs." i'm dr. sanjay gupta. the lab we're talking about is the international space station. when we say this is a mobile lab, we really mean it. the iss is orbiting around the earth at a speed of 32,000 kilometers an hour. that's more than 30 times faster than a commercial jet. with near zero gravity conditions, special diet and modified exercise, it's the perfect place for experimenting on the human body. space was once called the final frontier, and now for medicine, it's a new beginning.

fact the airline is virtually brand-new. here's abc's david car lay. >> with 194 people on board, it was a wide body airbus a-330 like this one that suddenly lost power to both engines. it was cruising more than three hours into its flight from singapore to shanghai at 39,000 in bad weather when the engines shut down. no power. the jet would lose 13,000 feet in altitude before pilots were able to get both the engines working. >> when you've got a highly computerized airplane, maybe this was a glitch in the software. whatever it was, on a new airplane, it's highly unusual. >> singapore airlines tells us the first engine restarted almost immediately, procedures call for the pilots to descend, keeping speed up and then turn the engine's start switch to try and reignite the engine. it worked. the jet landed safely and mechanics found nothing unusual on the weeks old jetliner. >> this happened over the weekend.
