May 11, 2021 Kaelyn Mikes, daughter of Maeve Valentino and Christopher Mikes Sebring has been nominated for Junior National Honor Society. She will be inducted May 17. Kaelyn, a home schooler, was nominated by her core subject teachers when she was only 11 years old. She currently holds a 4.0 grade point average. She is on Art In Motion Studio tap dance team. She loved helping the Tiny Tappers, until Covid brought so many changes. Kaelyn also takes water and snacks to the Sebring fire department monthly. She is currently researching what she can do to help the Sebring police department’s new K-9 unit.
Mt. Union scholars ALLIANCE — The University of Mount Union hosted its annual Student Celebration Honoring Our Latest Academic Research (SCHOLAR) Day in a hybrid in-person/virtual model April 20. SCHOLAR Day is traditionally a campus-wide, day-long event filled with presentations showcasing academic excellence and scholarly research conducted by Mount Union students. While still adhering to Covid-19 safety protocols, Mount Union provided limited in-person attendance to the poster and formal presentations, while still offering a livestream option to those off-campus. Tucker Cope III, a civil engineering major of Columbiana, was selected for work on a poster titled “Sustainable Erosion Control System.” Bailey Balderson, a public relations major of Alliance, was selected for work on a poster titled “RSM for U-M-YOU.”

Elaine Clark Miss Clark, daughter of Joseph and Heather Clark, has an academic average of 96.61. She will graduate with a Regents Diploma and has earned 12 college credits. Honors and scholarships she has received include The Clarkson Achievement Award, Junior Key Award, Presidential Award and Horizons Scholarship. She was chosen as a representative for the National Youth Leadership Form in Advanced Medicine and Healthcare, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Md., and earned a certificate of selection for the Congress of Future Medical Leaders Award of Excellence from Mario Capecchi.

Valedictorian Elaine Clark, daughter of Joseph and Heather Clark, has been named Valedictorian of the Hermon-DeKalb Central School Class of 2021. Her academic achievements have earned her an overall grade point average of 96.61% and she will graduate with a Regents diploma and has earned twelve college credits. Among her many honors and scholarships, Elaine is a recipient of The Clarkson Achievement Award, the Junior Key Award, the Presidential Award, and the Horizons Scholarship.
