The island was the site of a fierce battle between japanese and u. S. Soldiers during world war ii. Palaus president , tommy hemengesau, says residents are looking forward to their arrival. We are very honored and very appreciative of the now planned visit of the emperor and the empress to visit palau as we remember the 70th anniversary of the end of world war ii.
