it was a delta flight from minneapolis without the captain in the cockpit when it landed. it's a strange one. the cockpit door jammed and the captain couldn't get in. so the co-pilot called ahead an emergency and landed alone without incident. crews are checking that door. >> was it dangerous? no. in aviation, pilots like redundancy but train to fly these aircraft by themselves. david kerley, abc news, washington. icy conditions led to two scary incidents. on airport runways. one in michigan, two planes skidded off the tarmac after landing at the grand rapids airport where light freezing rain was falling and another american eagle jet with 26 people on board and the other a fedex plane. no injuries in either incident. and in pittsburgh, a private jet not supposed to be there slid off the runway after an emergency landing. there were no injuries and no significant damage to the plane. icy conditions are part of a winter storm hitting the northeast this morning. the latest on that from justin

southern michigan and right through central new york through new england. and there's a couple spots that could even pick up maybe two feet of snow out of this. and a lot of major cities will be a player in this including chicago, indianapolis, st. louis, kansas city, wichita, even oklahoma city and dallas. let me give you one of the cities if i had to pick where the highest totals could come from would be peoria, up to two feet. even tulsa could get nailed on the backside of this storm. now, the areas in pink, chris, i put those in pink because that's who's going to get a wintry mix, snow mixed with sleet and freezing rain. including dallas. little rock, st. louis. as we move now to the great lakes, chicago, we've got you 12 to 18. even cleveland's going to get a wintry mess. still 8 to 12. indianapolis, i'm worried for you. you're going to lose power with freezing rain, downed tree limbs, power lines. and behind that, you'll have windchills that are minus 20. so if you lose power, you're going to want to go to a friend's house or hotel because you're not going to want to sit in your house especially with kids. take a deep breath. we get to new england.
