Trio accused of kidnapping in Northland's Paihia to face trial


O’Connell also faces an additional kidnapping charge, an additional unlawful possession of a firearm charge, shooting at police and two counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
Brown-Martin also faces one charge of driving dangerously, while Witehira faces an extra charge of unlawfully discharging a pistol.
They each face a maximum penalty of 14 years in prison if convicted.
The three appeared at the High Court at Whangārei on Thursday, where Justice Timothy Brewer set a trial date of July 4, 2022.
O’Connell and Brown-Martin were remanded in custody until a trial call-over on July 29, while Witehira was remanded on electronically-monitored bail.

‘Flying High’ project in spectacular style this week,
marking the start of a New Zealand-wide tour promoting the
importance of education, innovation and sustainability to
Year 5-11 students at low decile and rural

Maromaku and Oturu Schools in Northland, providing rides to
120 children as part of an interactive education programme.

Nine America's Cup fanzones have been approved around Northland, and the projector at one of them, Kerikeri's Turner Centre, has been tested to make sure there wouldn't be any glitches.
Turner Centre marketing and sales co-ordinator Iris Klapwijk said there would be no better place to catch all the action.
