Making room for women in design through inclusive spaces

Architecture news & editorial desk
Forty years since they first questioned the concept of a built environment designed by and for men, members of a radical feminist design collective have come together to present an exhibition at the Barbican Centre in London, UK and bring the focus back to the need for creating inclusive spaces.
Matrix Feminist Design Co-operative was a women’s design and architecture collective that worked solely on state-funded, social building projects including women’s and refugee centres, facilities for women and children, construction training workshops, and lesbian and gay housing projects. Active in London from 1981-1994, Matrix also provided publicly funded architectural advice, helped establish educational programmes to increase access for women into architecture and building, and also highlighted the relationship between space and gender through a variety of events and publications.

AT&T is nearing a deal to combine its content unit WarnerMedia with rival Discovery to create a media giant with an enterprise value of $150bn, a few years after acquiring the owner of CNN, HBO and Warner Bros, said people briefed about the matter.
The board of directors of AT&T were meeting on Sunday to approve the deal, said two people with direct knowledge of the matter. The agreed deal is expected to be announced in the coming days.
The combined unit would merge one of Hollywood’s most valuable catalogues with Discovery, which has had success with a streaming service focused on unscripted cooking and home renovation shows.

V&A Dundee – club culture exhibition
V&A Dundee’s Night Fever exhibition will be one of the first shows to open in the UK, with Scotland coming out of lockdown earlier than the rest on 1 May. Appropriate too, that it will explore a world that most of us haven’t seen for more than a year: clubbing. Night Fever will delve into iconic clubs from New York, Paris, Florence, Manchester, London, Bierut and Berlin – as well as those in towns and cities across Scotland. The show will cover how the progressive and subversive history of nightclub design has influenced pop culture, from Studio 54 to the Haçienda.
