job turned into sudden death and hours of effort to retrieve the victim s body. the call first came out as a rescue in a neighborhood on cold spring lane near morgan state. excavator was moving dirt. the operator stepped on to a ladder. for some reason fell back into the hole in the exterior walls of dirt collapsed and came down on him. reporter: paramedics found the man dead from apparent cardiac work. and rescue turned into hours of work to retrieve the man s body. i commend the baltimore city fire department for the hard work. they risk their lives to help other people. i think it s at miles an hour rabble. reporter: he had been working in this trench about 10 feet deep replacing a residential sear line. so quick, out of nowhere. it just happened so quick. tragic, but sad situation. something that started out so simple cost somebody. reporter: it took most of the afternoon to free the man s body because the same collapse that took his life also threatened ....
