reaction, response, and the potential of a wider war here? >> that's an escalation at a time when the u.s. administration is worried that prime minister netanyahu is looking at the northern border and an attack on lebanon, a greater incursion into lebanon as a way to secure his political support. israel has answered the volley of rockets that nada was talking about from hezbollah to israel's northern territories with another what looks like a targeted assassination. hezbollah, its next step could be targeting haifa. it hasn't done something like that. it hasn't hit any major israeli cities. if that happens, then we are looking at a move toward a greater armed conflict. >> yeah. as people should know, haifa is there on the border. a large city where a lot of people actually fled, worried about the fact that there may be
targeted a hezbollah military compound in the southern area of lebanon near that border region. this comes off the back of that apparent israeli strike in the suburbs of southern beirut here where we did see a senior hamas leader killed in that strike, a moment that was described by hamas as a cowardly assassination and one that has triggered a response by hezbollah. a preliminary response, however, has to be said. the secretary general of hezbollah speaking just last week saying if israel seeks to wage war on lebanon, the response from hezbollah would be, in his words, limitless. >> nada, thank you. joining me is retired brigadier general mark kimmet. thank you so much for being here. you heard from nada. the response limitless after a source telling us that a senior member of hezbollah has been killed in an israeli strike. what's your reaction to this,
new fears this morning of a wider conflict in the middle east. after a senior hamas leader was killed in an a attack in the lebanese capital, four people were killed in the blast, which targeted an office belonging to hamas. israel has not taken responsibility for killing the leader, but in a vailed reference to the attack, the far right finance minister said all of israel's enemies will perish. cnn is live beirut with more. nada, can you talk more about this senior leader, what is known about him? >> reporter: we're talking about somebody who number two in the political the bureau, someone considered one of the founders of hamas' military wing. the strike just happening last night. authorities are still here clearing the debro from this office of where it appears to have been a very precise strike and explosion. the lebanese national news
[ explosion ] [ screaming ] >> you can hear the fear and the screams there. according to iranian state media, officials described the explosions and they're calling these explosions a terror attack. cnn's nada bashir is following this for us. nada, what is the latest? >> well, this is certainly a developing story, john. we are still getting more details from officials and media on the ground in iran, but in the last hour or so, we have seen the death toll steadily rising and at least 103 killed and 141 injured according to state media in iran, citing officials on the ground. some of those injured are said to be in a critical condition and we have seen a dramatic footage emerging from the scene showing crowds running away from the site of the blast. we've seen ambulances and emergency services gathering, rushing people to nearby hospitals. of course, we are getting more details around the specifics, around these twin blasts
snowfall on the ground in new york city. other cities in the same snow drought situation. now, on a more immediate sense this, is current radar, so you are looking at what is happening right now across the gulf coast. this is a weak disturbance that will bring rain to the southeast, but that will exit quickly. more rain for the carolinas but not really a major weather maker. it is this storm system from the west coast to the east coast that will first bring snow to the mountains, four corners, perhaps sierra nevada. about 6 to 18 inches fending on where you located. and that will pick up energy and potentiallyon where you located. and that will pick up energy and potentially bring us the weekend snowstorm. and it won't time out for weekday. so chances of canceling school, nada. so be realistic about that one. >> luckily my son is still young enough that he just loves going to school and would be sad not to go. but has been asking me completely when he gets to go
