Hundreds of pounds worth of flowers stolen from national war memorial

Thieves have stolen hundreds of pounds worth of new flowers from a national memorial to Scotland’s fallen.
The crooks removed entire beds of flowers from the Veterans Memorial – one of the nation’s only monuments to living veterans as well as fallen heroes – in Knightswood, Glasgow.
Dedicated 11 years ago, the memorial and surrounding gardens were paid for by veterans across the country. The incident has shocked many civilians and ex-service personnel.
Former paratrooper Terry McCourt, the memorial’s custodian, said: “To say we are all angry and stunned by this is an understatement.”

It’s probably necessitated by Covid regulations, but having the historians speaking unseen (talking non-heads, as it were) is refreshingly non-distracting. In the second episode of this life of Winston Churchill, Tessa Dunlop’s disembodied voice describes Churchill as “one of the most ambitious men who ever lived”, and by the time we reach the First World War, the 40-year-old Churchill is in charge of the British Navy and one of the five members of the war cabinet. And then he dreams up the idea of invading Germany’s ally Turkey by way of Gallipoli. In disgrace, Churchill enlisted for the trenches and began the long road back to power.

Misha Defonseca's Holocaust story was beyond belief – The Forward

Misha Defonseca had a secret. As she stood before the synagogue at Temple Beth Torah in Holliston, Massachusetts, she harbored a tale so remarkable that it would eventually catapult her to international notoriety. After a half century of silence, Misha began to share her story of escaping Nazi-occupied Belgium during the Holocaust. Her fellow congregants were stunned to learn the details of her journey.
The story began with Misha’s parents’ disappearance, after which she was “hidden” by a Catholic family who raised her. Determined to find her parents, she ran away, walking east across Europe, living mostly in the forest, subsisting on bugs, avoiding Nazis in the Warsaw Ghetto, and even stabbing one to death in self-defense. Astonishingly, she gained the trust of a pack of wolves, living among them for months and sharing in their kills.

Working-class fight for power is central to 'Jewish Question' – The Militant

The Jewish Question: A Marxist Interpretation.
The murderous attack on Jews at the Kosher deli in Jersey City in December 2019, the cold-blooded massacre of Jews at the Hyper Cacher kosher supermarket in Paris in 2015 and other acts of anti-Semitic violence shattered the illusion of many that virulent Jew-hatred ended with the fall of the Nazi regime. Or that it is only a minor question today.
Why does Jew-hatred persist and how can it be eradicated? This book, kept in print and actively distributed since 1950 by the Socialist Workers Party, answers those questions and shows the road to ending the national oppression of the Jews, which along with the fight for Black emancipation, is an essential component of the coming American revolution.
