Don’t look now, but British sportscar-maker Lotus is on a tear after posting its biggest global sales growth in a decade, following the official retirement of the iconic Elise, Exige and Evora models. Meanwhile, year-to-date (YTD) numbers were up 24% in 2021 compared to 2020, for a total of 1,710 units sold worldwide.
When they were milking the hell out of the Elan and Esprit, the peeps at Lotus returned to the British automaker’s roots with the Elise. Launched to much critical acclaim in 1995 and named after the daughter of head honcho Romano Artioli, the lightweight roadster also happened to drain the coffers dry, resulting in a takeover by Malaysian automaker Proton.
