Woman, 52, Wins Accountability Icon Award


Mrs. Wanley receives the 2020 Accountability Icon award from 2019 winner along with others on the list of top five finalists
O.Wanga Z. Wanley, 52-years old nurse and Officer in Charge (OIC) of the Totoquelleh Clinic in Gbarpolu County, has been crowned by Accountability Lab Liberia as the most inspiring female public servant of the year 2020.
Mrs. Wanley’s preferment for the 2020 Integrity Icon award of Liberia came as a surprise to her. She was selected among 30 individuals from different public sectors who were vetted for diligence and sincerity in public service.
Accountability Lab has been awarding public servants with the Integrity Icon Award since 2015, and an individual is selected without any prior knowledge of assessment being done about his or her performance in the public sector. ....

-UNFPA Urges Midwives
United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Country Representative to Liberia, Dr. Bannet Ndyanabangi, has called on the 34 graduates of the Denna K. Isaason School of Midwifery (DKISM) in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh county, to “serve to save lives.”
Dr. Ndyanabangi, reaffirming UNFPA’s commitment of continual support to DKISM and other midwifery schools in Liberia at the 14
th commencement program, held at the institution’s campus, told graduates to improve the quality of life and wellbeing of women and girls to be healthy and productive to contribute to their own development.
The UNFPA country representative, who strongly believes that midwives are the backbone of maternal health systems delivering babies, said they stand by women when they are most vulnerable. ....

Calvin Urey to Be Buried Tomorrow


The late Mr. Jomaku Calvin Urey
The remains of the late Mr. Jomaku Calvin Urey (commonly known as Calvin and JC)  is expected to be buried tomorrow, December 12, 2020, at the Urey’s cemetery in Careysburg, Lower Montserrado County.
Mr. Urey died on Wednesday, November 25, 2020, at 6:30 a.m. in Columbia Green Memorial Hospital in Columbia, New York, United States of America.
He was born unto the union of Mr. Daniel Webster Urey II and Mrs. Emma Boyce Urey in the city of Careysburg, Montserrado County, on September 25, 1949. He grew up in a Christian home and was imbued with Christian values, love for family, friends, and community. At an early age, Calvin set out to live a life full of laughter, excitement, and determination. ....

Among many Journalists across the globe, Hannah N. Geterminah of the Daily Observer newspaper and Massa Kanneh of OK FM were selected from Liberia to join other media workers virtually to cover the US elections through the guidance of experts.
As part of the United States of America government exchange program, every elections year, the State Department Foreign Press Center (FPC), through local Embassies, select media workers from various countries to participate in the Foreign Press International Reporting Tour to enable them have a deeper understanding of the US electoral system and provide local coverage that will also provide education, among other reasons. ....

U.S. Women Voters Showed More Support for Biden than Clinton


With 57 percent of women voting for Biden, show the huge support female voters give Biden than the Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton during the 2016 election that could have seen the first female president ever in the American’s history.
Amid the mammoth voter turnout in the 2020 US presidential election, the women vote made a significant impact on the emergent results, especially in favor of Democratic ticket runners Joe Biden and Kamala Harris for President and Vice-President, respectively. 
According to exit polls conducted by Edison Research for the National Election Pool (reported by the New York Times), 57 percent of women voted for Biden/Harris, compared to 42 percent for Donald J. Trump and his running mate, Mike Pence. ....
