Duterte admin doer, not talker: presidential adviser

Presidential Adviser on Covid-19 Response, Secretary Vince Dizon, at the "Duterte Legacy Summit" at Philippine International Convention Center, Pasay City on Monday (May 30, 2022) (Photo by Avito Dalan) MANILA - Actions speak louder than words and the results speak for themselves, Presidential Adviser on Covid-19 Response, Secretary Vince Dizon, said of President Rodrigo Duterte's administration. Dizon said "talk is cheap" and he considers himself "very fortunate" to have worked with the economic team and the "Build, Build, Build" team for five years. "I can tell you that under the leadership of the President, under the leadership of (Finance Secretary) Sonny Dominguez, (Transportation) Secretary Art Tugade, former (Public Works) Secretary and now senator-elect Mark Villar, and of course, our Executive Secretary, Salvador Medialdea, no one exemplifies those three quotes better than the economic team and the 'Build, Build, Build' team. So please let us give credit where credit is due and these are the men who exemplify the best of public service," Dizon said at the Duterte Legacy Summit at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City on Monday. Dizon lauded the Duterte administration's "unprecedented" whole-of-government approach among national agencies, local government units, and the private sector to combat the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic for more than two years now. "I dare say, if not for the very bold, decisive, and swift action of the President and the likes of (vaccine czar) Secretary Carlito Galvez, (Local Government) Secretary Ed Ano, (Defense) Secretary (Delfin) Lorenza, and (Health) Secretary Francisco Duque, we would not be here where we are today," Dizon said. "That unprecedented whole-of-nation call of the President signaled unprecedented cooperation," he added. After years of dealing with the health crisis, Dizon said the government has brought back jobs, businesses, and normal operations of the transportation sector. He also praised the "unprecedented" cooperation and partnership of the private sector with the government to further boost the pandemic responses, including the building Covid-19 testing laboratories and treatment facilities, as well as ramping up the vaccination program. The National Task Force Against Covid-19, led by Galvez, has been at the forefront of the vaccine procurement and inoculation program, Dizon pointed out while recalling that they "met a lot of criticisms in the beginning". The government's massive and collaborative efforts allowed the Philippines to acquire over 200 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines, he added, noting that supplies are more than enough for the protection of Filipinos against the dreaded disease. To date, the Philippines has administered 151,648,507 Covid-19 doses nationwide, with 70,820,093 fully vaccinated and 14,084,991 with first booster shots. The country's average daily vaccination rate has increased to 299,759 doses for the past seven days, compared to around 100,000 doses in the previous weeks leading to the elections. (PNA) }

PRRD reiterates commitment to keep Filipinos safe, healthy

Duterte on Thursday reiterated his administration's commitment to keep Filipinos safe and healthy as the country tries to recover and mitigate the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on its economy. "The government remains committed to keeping everyone safe and healthy, especially now as we try to regain economic and social stability for our nation," Duterte said in a video message during the Resbakuna ceremonial vaccination for 2nd booster dose at SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City. Duterte also thanked all frontline healthcare workers and senior citizens who lined up to get their second booster shots during the event. He said getting vaccinated against Covid-19, not only protect recipients but also their families and the entire country. Presidential adviser on Covid-19 response Secretary Vince Dizon, for his part, emphasized the importance of getting vaccinated as well as observing minimum public health standards. "Gusto kong mapaalala sa ating lahat na ang bakuna talaga at itong mask...ito talagang dalawang 'to ang nagsasalba sa tin. Ito ang dahilan kung bakit ang malls natin ay napupuno ng tao ngayon, ito ang dahilan kung bakit ang ating mga kababayan ay nakakabalik na sa trabaho (I want to remind all of usl that vaccines and face masks...these two are keeping us protected. These are the reasons why are malls are now full of people, the reason why our countrymen can return to work)," he said. The Resbakuna ceremonial vaccination for 2nd booster dose, organized by the Department of Health (DOH), in collaboration with its regional offices and SM Supermalls, highlights the Duterte administration's steadfast response against the Covid-19 pandemic by protecting every Filipino until the very last day of its term. Around 1.09 million health workers and 2.14 million senior citizens are eligible for second booster shots as of May 19, according to data from the DOH. The health workers received a homologous booster, or the same brand of vaccine as their first additional dose, while the elderlies were given a heterologous shot from a different brand. During the event, Mandaluyong Mayor Benjamin Abalos Sr., three medical front-liners, and three senior citizens were given Pfizer jab as their second booster. The government initially rolled out the second booster for immunocompromised persons such as those who received an organ transplant, cancer and HIV/AIDS patients, have primary immunodeficiency, and those who take immunosuppressants. As of May 23, data from the National Vaccination Operations Center (NVOC) showed that over 69 million or 76.70 percent of the target population are fully vaccinated while nearly 14 million have received their booster shots. Gatchalian backs gov't plan to build Covid-19 vaccination sites in schools; insists more schools should hold in person classes – Manila Bulletin

Re-electionist Senator Sherwin Gatchalian on Friday said he supports the government’s plan to establish Covid-19 vaccination sites in schools as this would help increase the vaccination coverage among minors and open more schools for face-to-face classes.

Gov't eyes vax sites in schools to prop up more F2F classes

(Photo courtesy ofSan Carlos City Information Office) MANILA - The government is eyeing the establishment of vaccination sites in schools to encourage more children to get protected against Covid-19. During the prerecorded "Talk to the People" of President Rodrigo Duterte aired Tuesday morning, Presidential Adviser on Covid-19 Response, Secretary Vince Dizon, said National Task Force Against Covid-19 chief Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. already instructed to make coronavirus jabs available in all schools. Dizon noted that there are enough supplies of reformulated vaccines for the pediatric age group 5 to 11. "We have about 10 million remaining doses in stock so we have enough vaccines and these can be easily deployed to all our schools for our children," he said. Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Leonor Briones also reported that 25,668 public schools and 676 private schools nationwide have already started face-to-face classes. (Screengrab from RTVM) Dizon said the major challenge now is encouraging private schools to engage in face-to-face classes. "There is some resistance from the private schools and upon the consultations conducted earlier this evening (Monday), it seems that it is a mixture of various reasons and the most compelling of which is that some parents in the private schools are still apprehensive about letting their children go back to face-to-face classes, which of course is the right of every parent," Dizon said. The government strongly encourages all academic institutions, both public and private, to resume their face-to-face classes. The President has allowed the face-to-face classes provided that learners will be vaccinated against Covid-19. Thus, the government pushed for the procurement of reformulated low-dosage coronavirus jabs for children 5 to 11 years old, with 15 million doses already delivered. So far, more than 9.9 million aged 12 to 17 age groups and 2.7 million aged 5 to 11 have been vaccinated with at least the first dose. About 93 percent of over 947,000 DepEd personnel are fully vaccinated, Briones said. (PNA) }
