Tallahassee, Fla. – The Florida State track and field teams saw 12 personal best performances of Friday at FSU Relays at the Mike Long Track. Kelechi Nwanga and Edidiong Odiong contributed their career bests that were among the all-time top 10 performances in FSU history. Nwanaga led the Noles to a one-two finish in the women’s javelin in dominating fashion, measuring at 55.06m, edging her previous best of 54.93. She still holds the second-best performance in FSU history but inched closer to the school record (55.59m) that was set back in 2018 by Lauri Paredes. Odiong crossed the line first in the women’s 100m with a career best time of 11.28, which now ties for seventh in FSU history. Her previous best was 11.37, set last year and just shy of the FSU all-time top 10. We had a really good day today, Head Coach Bob Braman said. BOSTON Mass. – Take a bow, Adriaan Wildschutt. The Ceres, South Africa, native, solidified himself in the NCAA record books Saturday night with the second-fastest time in collegiate history in the 5000m run at the David Hemery Valentine Invite in Boston, Mass. Wildschutt's time was just 1.16 seconds shy of the collegiate record. Wildschutt found himself in front of several Olympians and his time will be a top 50 time in the history of the sport. ....
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Seven Florida State cross country runners were named All-Academic athletes by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Thursday.
Amanda Beach, Rebecca Clark, Jen Lima, Lauren Ryan and Maudie Skyring were among the 114 women earned All-Academic distinction for their efforts during the 2021 season.
Adriaan Wildschutt and Ahmed Muhumed were two of 83 student-athletes recognized on the men’s list. In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top-25 (or 10 percent) at the NCAA Regional Championships or as an All-American at the NCAA Championships. “I’m so proud of both teams for their academic performance this Fall,” FSU head coach Bob Braman said. “We had one of our best performances in program history. TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida State men's and women's cross country teams each posted top 20 finishes on a perfect Saturday morning at the NCAA Championships at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee, Fla. Adriaan Wildschutt (6th), Ahmed Muhumad (20th) and Lauren Ryan (26th) each earned All-America honors. The women got off to a great start in the 6k and were sitting third at the the 2000m mark. Ryan continued her strong season and finished with a career best time of 19:50.1 to finish 26th. Maudie Skyring and Rebecca Clark ran together and finished with near identical times of 20:35.1 and 20:35.6, respectively. Amanda Beach (20:48.6) and Erin Phelps (20:57.4) rounded out the scoring for the Seminoles. In the men's race, Wildschutt continued his strong season and made his second consecutive top 10 finish at the NCAA Championships after a second-place finish at last year's race. NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The No.19/10 Florida State cross country teams captured four All-ACC honors at the 2021 ACC Cross Country Championships at the Burke Golf Course on Friday. Adriaan Wildschutt dominated the men’s 8k, bringing home the ACC men’s individual title for the third time in school history with a time of 23:07.0. Andrew Lemoncello is FSU’s only other champion, winning back-to-back titles in 2004 and 2005. “I wanted to come out here and perform well for my team,” Wildschutt said. “I knew there are a bunch of good runners from Notre Dame in the race, who I respect, and I knew I had a shot at this title. From the first 1k I realized it was a good pace and if I could keep it up for another 3k I should be good, and I would take off.” His teammate Ahmed Muhumed won bronze, crossing the line at 23:24.0.
