New research reveals that just 20 minutes of yoga nidra, a type of mindfulness training, can significantly improve sleep quality and cognitive abilities. The practice, described by practitioners as an “awake aware sleep,” is done in a supine posture. About the study: A study conducted by researchers from the Armed Forces Medical College in India, involved novice practitioners doing 20-minute sessions of yoga nidra during the day for two weeks.
From the very start, unspoken principles are ingrained in service members. One such principle is that "sleep is a crutch."
The study did not find an association between glycemic parameters and flow-mediated dilation, but they did find associations between lower sleep efficiency with poorer glycemic control, insulin resistance, estimated glucose disposal rate, and HbA1C.
1. In this randomized controlled trial, improvements in episodic memory in older adults who underwent a moderate-intensity exercise program were mediated by baseline sleep efficiency—those with lower sleep efficiency demonstrated greater improvements in episodic memory following the treatment. 2. However, there were no differences in sleep parameters, including duration, sleep efficiency, and sleep onset latency,
