Gymbacks' Historic Season Ends in Tuscaloosa | Arkansas Razorbacks

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Arkansas gymnastics team signed off on an undeniably amazing season on Saturday night in Tuscaloosa. The Gymbacks finished the evening in third place with a score of 196.700, just shy of advancing to nationals in Fort Worth.
Starting the session on beam, senior Sophia Carter showed off her veteran grace by nailing her beat-jump, double-stag jump series and sticking her side-ariel back-full dismount. She led Arkansas in the event and tied her season-high with a 9.900 from the judges. Redshirt-senior Sarah Shaffer and junior Kennedy Hambrick made sure to end the rotation strong, both contributing 9.850s to the lineup.

No. 10 Gymbacks Set for NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 10 Arkansas gymnastics team is set for the program’s 16th-consecutive appearance at NCAA Regionals with a trip to Tuscaloosa, Alabama this weekend.
Arkansas was selected to Session I of the Tuscaloosa Regional, set to begin competition on Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. The Gymbacks will begin the session on bars and advance through the rotations in Olympic order. Joining the Razorbacks in Session I will be 2021 SEC Champions and No. 7 Alabama, No. 19 Iowa and No. 20 Iowa State. In Session II will be No. 1 Oklahoma, No. 23 Missouri and either Eastern Michigan or Maryland, who will compete in a play-in on Thursday afternoon.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – It was a historic night in Barnhill Arena for the University of Arkansas gymnastics team. The Gymbacks scored a program-record 197.350 in their win over No. 25 Missouri (197.350-196.850). Junior Kennedy Hambrick became Arkansas’ all-time, all-around leader with an impressive final score of 39.750.
On her way to the top, Hambrick swept the event titles on the night. She began the meet tying the Arkansas record on vault with a career-high 9.975, sticking her Yurchenko 1.5 with ease. She followed with a 9.875 on bars, executing her blind-change jaeger, immediate overshoot beautifully for the judges.
In the anchor spot on beam, Hambrick set another career-high. Her back handspring layout and switch leap-switch half earned her a 9.950, matching the highest score on beam by a junior in Arkansas history and just the eighth Gymback to ever do so.

No. 5 Arkansas Ready for Friday Night Showdown at No. 15 Kentucky

The Gymbacks took down the No. 10 Georgia Bulldogs inside Stegeman Coliseum, 196.875-195.950, for the Razorbacks’ first-ever win in Athens. Sarah Shaffer won her first floor title of the season, while Kennedy Hambrick took home her second all-around title in four meets. After an uncharacteristic leadoff fall on the beam, Bailey Lovett followed with a career-high 9.925 for a share of the event title with Hambrick. Arkansas also recorded a season-high 49.175 on the vault and the second-highest team score of the season in the win, 196.875.
Arkansas enters the week ranked No. 5 in the all-around by Road to Nationals, while remaining at the No. 3 spot on both the beam and floor exercise. Four Gymbacks rank among the top 15 in the nation in each of the four events: Sophia Carter ranks ninth on the floor, Maggie O’Hara ranks 11th on the uneven bars, Hambrick ranks 12th on the balance beam and Amanda Elswick ranks 13th on the vault.
