The Police Headquarters issued a statement stating that it strongly denies allegations that the Sri Lanka Police discriminates against female officers.
The Police Headquarters has issued the statement in response to reports that the rights of women police officers have been violated and that some officers have been subjected to discrimination.
Former SSP Bimshani Jasin Arachchi was promoted to the post of DIG by the Police Commission last year and 32 senior SSPs including former police spokespersons Ruwan Gunasekara and Jaliya Senaratne filed a fundamental rights petition in the Supreme Court.
They had stated that Bimshani Jasin Arachchi has been appointed to a post which is not available for the women cadre in the approved number of employees in the police service.

International media reports on Dhammika syrup turning sour

Thursday, 21 January 2021 - 11:11
International media has reported regarding the Covid syrup developed by Dhammika from Kegalle stating that it has turned sour.
The reports stated that a self-styled Sri Lankan holy man’s supposed miracle potion to prevent Covid-19 has turned sour after a minister who publicly drank it was taken to hospital with the virus. Thousands defied public gathering restrictions to swamp a village in central Sri Lanka last month to get the syrup made by Dhammika Bandara.
The women and child development minister, Piyal Nishantha de Silva, was among several politicians who consumed the concoction, but parliamentary officials said he had since tested positive for coronavirus and was taken to a treatment centre according to the reports.

Hundreds of birds found dead after fireworks set off in Rome

Saturday, 02 January 2021 - 11:52
Hundreds of birds have died after fireworks were set off in Rome on New Year's Eve, animal rights groups have claimed, calling it a "massacre."
Video footage of the roads near the main train station in the Italian capital showed scores of birds, mostly starlings dead on the ground.
The reason was not certain, but the International Organisation for the Protection of Animals said it looked likely that firecrackers and fireworks set off in the leafy neighbourhood that many birds use to roost had been the cause
The firework display was in breach of a ban by the city of Rome, which was widely ignored. The Italian capital had also imposed a 10pm curfew as part of its virus restrictions.

liberal influence in these university -- the answer is yes. but do you think that influence is chilling speech from the political right? >> i believe it's for the marketplace of ideas. ideas on the right and left that should be debated and understood and our students come to an understanding of the differeing views, and the issue of racism which our nation has dealt with and now needs to move forward with inclusion and support for all religions and races, and that's not something worthy of debating or worthy of stating except to understand those that are causing harm to the nation and harm to our university by him being here. >> do you think you can keep people safe when spencer comes? >> we invested over $600,000.

they're bringing drugs, they're bringing crime. they're rapists. >> would you take any of that back or rephrase any of it, if you could? >> no, because it's totally accurate. huffington post and fusion, 80% of central american women and girls are raped coming into the united states crossing the borders. they're taking our jobs, they're taking our manufacturing and they're taking our money. >> today macy's announced it will no longer sell trump's menswear collections in its stores because of remarks like those. trump responded by stating, for all those who want to make america great again, boycott macy's. they are weak on border security. and on stopping illegal immigration. >> did you know that macy's had a policy on border patrolling? >> yes, they do. they're building a big wall. it's comic and think about when republicans want to turn around and appeal to hispanic voters in a general election, how is it going to be when the nominee has to live with the legacy of language like that?
