NoCo's Best 2021: Food Truck

Get our free mobile app
Last Tuesday, we headed to the Fort Collins Food Truck Rally, strictly on business -- OK, pleasure too. We tried the Waffle Lab's classic chicken and waffles, the grilled cheese waffle, and the sweet European. We had such a great time kickin' it in City Park with friends we hadn't seen in a long time: the experience alone was fantastic.

On the Hook may have started in Wyoming, but the food truck serves up 'line-caught wild Alaskan cod fish and chips.' You can catch the truck rolling all over Colorado, with reviewers raving about the 'super flaky and moist,' 'perfectly fried' fish.

Larimer County reports 22 new COVID-19 outbreaks

Larimer County reported 22 new outbreaks this week — down from 25 the last week — and all but one had five or fewer cases. The overall number of active cases dropped as well, to 109.
Outbreaks newly reported this week included five assisted living and nursing facilities, three middle schools, two car dealerships, a domestic violence shelter and one elementary school.
This week’s largest outbreak was at City Park Church, 1725 W. Mulberry St. in Fort Collins. The church reported seven cases — two staff and five attendees — to the county. The outbreak was reported to the state on May 11.
Calls to the church seeking comment were not returned.

Larimer County COVID-19 outbreaks climb; 9 schools see new infections

Larimer County saw 28 new outbreaks of COVID-19 in the state's latest report, one of the highest weekly totals since the pandemic began. However, the number of cases associated with each outbreak remains relatively small.
Of the 28 new outbreaks, 10 are at schools and child-care centers. The state defines an outbreak as two or more cases at a site within a 14-day span.
There are now 106 active outbreaks in Larimer County with 4,077 people testing positive; 374 outbreaks have been resolved since the pandemic began, according to county and state data reported on Wednesday. Excluding Colorado State University, which has had 2,894 reported positive cases since October, the county lists 1,183 cases associated with outbreaks since the start of the pandemic.

COVID-19 Colorado Outbreaks Level Red Hot Spot Counties

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment just reported nearly 150 new COVID-19 outbreaks identified in the past week. Well over half of them are located in four counties, including Denver, that are currently at Level Red on the agency's dial dashboard, a system that transitioned from compulsory to advisory on April 16.
The CDPHE considers an entity an outbreak after two or more COVID-19 cases among residents, staffers or other people connected to a specific location are confirmed within a fourteen-day period, or two or more cases of respiratory illness with an onset of symptoms within a fourteen-day period are paired with at least one additional COVID-19 diagnosis. The vast majority of businesses and facilities identified as outbreaks remain open while working with the department to monitor symptoms and prevent future infections.

Survivors and collateral damage: Pandemic-damaged restaurant industry one year later
"I don't think that anybody had a playbook for what just occurred," said Robert Talamantez of Terry Black's Barbecue in Deep Ellum.

DALLAS — The pandemic has contributed to the closure of thousands of Texas restaurants. The survivors often consider themselves fortunate, while also remaining wary of the potential need to pivot again.
One year ago this week Judy Spiva, manager at Lucky's Cafe in the Oak Lawn neighborhood of Dallas, sat for an interview in the dining room mostly alone. It was the week restaurants were ordered closed. She and her staff were trying to figure out how to survive with delivery and to-go orders only.
