A native of Los Angeles, Calif., he graduated from Loyala High School in 1954, later graduating with a bachelor of science degree from Loyola University of Los Angeles in 1958 and St. Louis Medical School in St. Louis in 1963. Pursuing his medical career, he returned to Los Angeles with an internship at the Queen of Angels Hospital in Los Angeles in 1964, followed by a residency in radiology at the hospital in 1967.
