NYFA Instructor Tim Fielder Featured by "The New York Times" - New York Film Academy Blog

The New York Times (NYT) penned a profile citing a boom in comic books and graphic novels that focus on Afrofuturism, a cultural aesthetic that describes the intersection of African diaspora culture with technology. The term was originally coined in the 1990s and for decades has been used by Black creators to envision an alternative present and future that celebrates the African diaspora.
Among those creators is NYFA 3D Animation & VFX instructor Tim Fielder, who the
NYT included in its latest article about the boom of Afrofuturism that goes beyond the popular Marvel comic
Black Panther.

Future Tense newsletter: The streaming world and the old Hollywood system.

I remember how we used to go to offices and huddle around discussing the one TV show we’d all watched the previous night, like
Mad Men. There was no water cooler per se, but apparently not too many years before then all non-work-related office chatter was required by law to take place around one, and so we would still call these water-cooler shows.

With 'INFINITUM: An Afrofuturist Tale,' Tim Fielder is pushing the genre forward

Dirty Computer by Janelle Monáe and
Star Trek: Discovery, which have Afrofuturist influences and components, are mainstream examples of the genre, signaling a cultural shift that is long overdue. In an ever-changing world that is adapting to the call for better representation of Blackness, visionary pioneers such as Tim Fielder are sitting at the center of it all.
Fielder, an OG Afrofuturist, according to his fans, is also a seasoned comics writer, graphic novelist, illustrator, cartoonist, and he has even presented his own TEDxTalk on Visual Afrofuturism. Fielder is an established veteran in the world of Visual Afrofuturism and comics, but now he s pioneering a new frontier in the genre, becoming the first author to publish a fully rendered Afrofuturist graphic novel with an original story from a major publishing company. ....
