well, there are many reasons why you might want a depressurization. you ve got to get below 10,000 people so people can breathe. and two, you d want to get out of the commercial traffic lanes which are for commercial passenger jets, 18,000 feet and above. if you didn t have a transponder which means you have no collision avoidance system, and you could not communicate with air traffic control. however, as david mentioned earlier in the hour, and he makes a great point, you don t just go from 35,000 feet like a helicopter and drop down to 5,000 feet. you have to descend and then turn around and climb again. so we want more information from the investigators and the radar people, did they just see it on radar and then didn t see it on radar, so they assume it descended? or did they see the descent path? that would be interesting to know. we don t know that. we don t know so many things. so david, in your mind, because ....

Least that point things seemed normal. the plane s altitude seemed all over the place. investigators saying the plane at one point dropped to below 5,000 feet. what does that tell you? you can read a lot of things into that or not. like everything in this investigation, if you re flying a plane at 35,000 feet where this flight was and you had a depressurization, you would need to get down below 10,000 feet and in a hurry. also, if you had lost your communications and your transponder wasn t working, you have to get out of the commercial flight traffic lanes. that s above 18,000 feet, for a couple reasons. one, if you don t have communications, you can t talk to flights or air traffic control. two, that would mean, if you had no transponder, that your collision avoidance doesn t work. that s a very dangerous situation. that s another reason to get down and out of air traffic lanes. 4,000 to 5,000 feet is usually not low enough to avoid radar, certainly not commercial radar. bottom ....

Indication that the plane hit the water nose first. but still the question, what brought the plane down? and if it was a deliberate act, what was the motive? there has been no claim of terrorism found by the cia, fbi computer experts found no evidence of wrongdoing on the pilot and first officer s computers. malaysian sources say the plane may have deliberately dropped to a low altitude, attempting to avoid radar. that low altitude could be one of the biggest indications flight 370 was not having mechanical trouble and trying to avoid other aircraft for safety reasons. did you hear anybody say that there was any emergency call? why would you turn off the transponder? and so at the end of the day now, u.s. officials still theorize somebody steered that plane away from land and they still need two answers. ....

Took off from kuala lumpur, made that strange westward turn back over the malaysian peninsula. at some point they say the plane dipped in altitude to as low as 4,000 feet and disappeared from military radar. mary, care to tackle that? what does it tell us? it can tell us three things. we still don t know why, but we know three things that could have accomplished. once, if you had a loss of pressurization, you d want to get down below 10,000 feet so you didn t have to rely on oxygen and you could live in a depressurized cabin or cockpit. two, you want to get out of other traffic. that s where you have to do it because commercial airliners fly at much higher attitudes, 18,000 feet and above. three, if you don t have any communications, you need to get out of other traffic because if your transponder is off or broken or don t work, you don t have cligs avoidance. three reasons to get out of harm s way. peter, if the plane did dip low and dis disappeared from ....
