We don t know where this is. finding the debris is key. they can go back to where it most likely is. back out searching tomorrow with more ships and planes than they ve had. that s good news assuming the weather breaks. shawn, i want to talk about the scenario from this data. you re not convinced it s as definitive as they say. you seem willing to accept the plane probably ended in the southern indian ocean somewhere. the question become, what put it there? what are the likely scenarios that put it on that path flying in the southern corridor for as long as it was? i think that the reasonable or potential explanations would be crew incapacitation on board the flight fire in the cargo hole or avionics bay that disabled the transponder. all these pieces point that direction. we re such a long way from being ....

How did it get there? who made it get there? then, you have what has been from day one, the criminal side runs parallel kind of just in case. did a pilot, did a member of the crew, did a passenger, somebody on the ground that services the aircraft, have something to do with this disappearance? really, not having the flight recorders, i don t know if we will ever know without those flight recorders. even if we get the flight recorders, the voice recorder, the cockpit voice recorder may have written over the recordings that occurred at the time that plane changed direction when the transponder was shut off and the acars stopped working. that s what we may never know. tom fuentes, many thanks. thank you, carol. we ll continue to explore this mystery. we ll take a look at the cargo. there were 400 pounds of lithium eye on batteries in the cargo ....

Plane on their radar. the indonesians say they never saw the plane on their radar. both of them may have missed it. but if you look at the map, and we re showing what s going on, it sounds like maybe the crew was deliberately trying, if you believe the thai and the the thai radar experts and the indonesian radar experts, you may be convinced that the crew was deliberately trying to avoid radar. i think there s a lot of fantasy to something like that. i think if somebody wanted to deliberately avoid radar, i mean it looked as though they turned off the transponder. the acars stopped. i don t know that it was the crew. it could have been somebody else in the cockpit. it could have been one of the crew members. but i don t know that those actions were purposely taken to deliberately forestall the radar. so you don t necessarily buy that theory. what do you think of the way the malaysians over the past 24 hours have handled this? because the prime minister comes out and says defi ....

U.s. navy aircraft have covered more than 160,000 square nautical miles but now new satellite data is helping search teams get closer in the indian ocean. we know we re only looking in one haystack rather than multiple haystacks. reporter: this former navy oceanographer s firm developed search maps that helped locate air france flight 447 in the atlantic ocean. he took us through the sophisticated mode dells that used. first, a grid that showed where the air france plane likely it this surface. two calculations for that, how far the plane could have flown between the last position update it gave and when the transponder failed and where the debris would have fallen if the plane had a catastrophic failure at cruisi cruising altitude. so you get a heat map and this meet map says where it s red that s likely where the plane is. where it s green it s a medium chance. reporter: but managing the search zones has huge obstacles. why can aircrafts spot so many ....

Pilots must be capable of being in place within five seconds. it s a certification requirement. put all of that together, the pilots put these pressure-fitting masks on, they can breathe, and they have much longer. they probably have 35 or 40 minutes of oxygen at that time. so we don t know that a depressurization occurred. if it did, there is crew oxygen available and there is passenger oxygen that is available automatically. what happened beyond that, we don t know. so we re still left with the conundrum. if they were alive, even for that 30 some minutes and 14 minutes for the passengers, they didn t use that time to communicate with anyone. it s even a little more complex than that, chris. if you look at the fact that they didn t communicate on any of the radios, they may have failed or chosen to be unused. we don t know. the transponder ceased to ....
