(Reuters) -Odysseus, the first U.S. spacecraft to land on the moon since 1972, has roughly 10 to 20 hours of battery life left, according to flight controllers who are still in contact with the robot lander. Texas-based Intuitive Machines said on Tuesday its flight controllers were in touch with the Odysseus moon lander and the spacecraft had relayed payload science data and imagery in the morning. NASA paid Intuitive $118 million to build and fly the spacecraft to the moon, carrying science instruments for the U.S. space agency and several commercial customers.
The Odysseus lunar lander is expected to cut its mission short Tuesday after a botched landing left it on its side on the moon’s surface. Intuitive Machines, the Houston-based aerospace firm that developed the craft, announced Monday that the probe would shut down Tuesday morning when the sun sets on the South Pole region of the moon, about two to…
A former student of San Diego Mesa College has made history as part of the team that just recently successfully landed a privately owned spacecraft on the moon, the college announced. Not only was Mario Romero part of the team, he named the spacecraft after winning a contest among coworkers.
Intuitive Machines initially said the Odysseus lander was upright after touchdown Thursday, but then said the craft “caught a foot in the surface and tipped," landing on its side.
ORLANDO, Fla. — A day after a private company made history with a soft landing on the moon, company officials detailed what they think they know from limited data gathered and lack of imagery about the lander, including the likelihood that is on its side. Houston-based Intuitive Machines’ Nova-C lander Odysseus touched down Thursday at 6:23 p.m. EST near the south pole of moon, making it the ...
A private U.S. lunar lander tipped over at touchdown and ended up on its side near the moon’s south pole, hampering communications, company officials said Friday.
The Odysseus spacecraft soft-landed sideways on the moon. Intuitive Machines says the lander caught an obstruction during touchdown. Images from the spacecraft are expected next week.
