February 9, 2021 at 8:30 am (AP) An outdated computer system used by the Hawaiʻi Department of Labor and Industrial Relations has caused delays in processing jobless benefit claims. Hawaiʻi Public Radio reported Congress extended benefits in late December because of the coronavirus pandemic, but many Hawaiʻi residents have gone more than a month without unemployment payments. State labor department Director Anne Perreira-Eustaquio says the agency has had problems finding software technicians who can build an upgrade for the latest federal extension. She says the department’s information technology infrastructure is so old that rushing the work could crash the entire system, causing payment delays for more claimants. ....
At the end of the day the governor is in control and not saying anything at this point. why where did this come from? it just seems like such a to people watching this on the outside, this seems a truly twisted and cruel bizarre turn for any public agency to take to turn off people s water in the 21st century in the united states of america. why is this happening? you know, can i submit to you that the same reasons why hobby lobby doesn t want to pay for health care, the same reasons why they fought, right wing conservatives fought unemployment extensions, the same reason why they shut the government down many times. the same reason why they won t raise the minimum wage. i mean, this is because of greed. this is disenfranchisement. this is privatization. and at the end of the day, it s only going to further push americans into abject poverty. ....

what do you think the reaction of the republicans will be of any executive order? well, you heard some of it. oh, this is unconstitutional. he s being too bold. who cares? what we can expect is obstruction, obstruction, obstruction. we have got to rally the american people so that every congressional district in america will not support them. if they know that, the republicans are going to be in serious trouble. unemployment extensions is that still possible? you have 1.6 million americans who have worked long periods of time now have no income coming in from unemployment benefits. it is a real crisis. we ought to continue that fight. i would imagine the president tonight is going to be talking ....
Looking for work. it s taking care of real americans who have worked hard and paid into the system most of their life. can we say now that the republicans have gamed the democrats on unemployment extensions? the word trust is gone. you can t trust this crowd once this budget deal was made. or maybe you have a different view of it, sir. no, there shouldn t be a deal. we should do this because it s the right thing to do. i think that s what we re trying to argue for. five times under president bush, we did this without any strings attached in a bipartisan way. now they re trying to make this a trade to gain and you re playing with real peoples lives. half of congress is millionai s millionaires. maybe that s part of the problem. we have to convince republicans in the house to take this for a vote. the case that i m making here tonight is if we re not going to ....
