Of anyone. so what about the failure to enact any tact cuts, what does that mean for you? it is essential that congress come together with a compromise to reinstate the unemployment benefits, not just for the unemployed here in georgia, but for 2 million unemployed americans. this is not about politics, this is about food on the table, a roof over people s head, and clothes for their children. we must do this for men and women who have lost their jobs. joanne, same question for you. yes, i would concur that it is critical that congress pass the unemployment extensions, as pointed out the individuals who are entitled to them earned those benefits. i would note that the benefits not only provide a safety net for those individuals, but also fuel our economy. the u.s. department of labor has advised and reported that for every dollar that is paid in unemployment, it generates $2 into the local economy. ....
Services all across your states and they re going to have an effect on your sales revenues. so top white house officials say it s not only the right economic policy to extend those benefits, it s also the right thing to do, shep. shepard: and republicans are saying they re not blocking this because they don t want to give the president any sort of political victory. but because they want to tackle other issues first? essentially, they re saying, ok, fine, people are out of work. they re hurting. find a way to pay for it. let s be fiscally responsible about it and so they re hammering the white house over the heads about that. essentially, it looks like it s going to boil down to trying to get the bush tax cuts extended and they seem to be heading towards a one to three year extension for upper income people and so to get that, the white house may say ok, fine, give us unemployment extensions and some other issues and so that may be the deal that ultimately is struck, shep. shep ....
