DETROIT (WXYZ) — It’s been an isolating year for seniors like Ida Sterrett, who was born and raised in Detroit. She's lived in the area all 100 years of her life.
"We’ve got a cool relationship, I've always been here,” said Ida's daughter Marsha.
Marsha lives with her mother and cares for her. For most of the pandemic, Ida hasn't seen much of her other family.

STERLING — Longtime friends Megan Marshall and Kristen Nelson have helped more than 500 eligible people get a COVID-19 vaccine appointment since they started their mission mid-February.
“One night in February, Megan came across a link to the Rutland collaborative site, and we set out to get our eligible family and friends registered,” Nelson said. “Once we accomplished this, we realized that maybe more people needed assistance navigating the constant refresh of the Massachusetts sites.”

An Army Of People Is Helping Folks In the Austin Area Find COVID-19 Vaccine Appointments

KUT
Laura Catoe is one of dozens of volunteers helping people sign up for vaccine appointments in the Austin area.
Laura Catoe has gotten really good at snagging vaccine appointments for folks having trouble doing it themselves. Anyone 16 or older in Texas has been eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine for a few weeks now, but finding an appointment to get a shot hasn't gotten much easier.
Catoe is a volunteer appointment booker with Kendra COVID Coaches, a group in Central Texas that helps people get vaccinated. Folks fill out a form online and people like Catoe hunt down a spot for them. Catoe says she has a whole system at this point.

NORTH BRANFORD — Nancy Kaplan was feeling desperate that her young adult son get his COVID-19 vaccination before they go to her daughter’s graduation from an Iowa veterinary school in May.
“No one wears masks there,” said Kaplan, who lives in Danbury.
Turning to the “New York/Connecticut Vaccine Hunters and Angels” group on Facebook, Kaplan’s son was given an appointment in plenty of time for the trip. Little did she know it was a 16-year-old Boy Scout who came to their rescue.

With COVID-19 surging again in Michigan, there's a race for vaccinations. Getting one at the FEMA site at Ford Field is a breeze. | Local News | Detroit

Lee DeVito
Detroit's Ford Field is now a large-scale FEMA-operated COVID-19 vaccination site through mid-May. My experience getting vaccinated here was easy.
The trucks that rolled out of the Pfizer facility near Kalamazoo in December carrying the first batch of COVID-19 vaccines offered one of the first tangible symbols that this pandemic could eventually end, and like many people eager to survive it, I wanted to register to get one as soon as possible. I knew that frontline workers, the elderly, and the immunocompromised would be prioritized, and as a man in my 30s with no health conditions, I was prepared to wait a while. So I waited. Vaccination clinics started to become available through local health departments, as well as retail pharmacies like Meijer, CVS, and Rite Aid. Finally, as eligibility and availability expanded in early March, I registered for a vaccine from the health department for Oakland County, where I live, and through Meijer, which is down the street. I planned to just go with whichever one came through first.

A 16-year-old from North Branford says he's personally signed up over 150 people to be vaccinated and he's not stopping any time soon.
Luke Izzo says when he first found the Vaccine Hunters and Angels Facebook group back in February, he knew he had to get involved.
For those having trouble finding a COVID-19 vaccine in Connecticut and New York, the page acts as a support group, information hub and resource guide.
Izzo says he's booked dozens of appointments for members personally.
As more doses of the vaccine reach the state, Izzo says it is getting easier to find and book appointments. But he says frustrated residents are still joining the Vaccine Angels group by the hundreds every day to look for help.
