Oversight of the department of Energy Research and development enterprise. Welcome, mr. Secretary. Were delighted youre here today. The laboratories and facilities so i hope we see you much more frequently from now on, and i look forward to working with you throughout this congress. With the budget season mostly behind us, id like to bring just a few minutes and a few items to your attention. Ill start with the good news which is that despite the administrations best effort to make draconian cuts across the board to deo research and Development Programs, most actually fared well in the house of representatives. Im particularly pleased to see the increases to the budget for arpae ....

Test. Test. Test. And part of that reason is because of the research that is going on at our National Labs. And im going to, again, ask paul to share with you, just because hes fresh out of seeing some of this and has to do with the Battery Storage. And the progress being made on Battery Storage is really fascinating. And ive always said that Battery Storage is the holy grail. If were able to get to that point where we can use our renewables, solar and wind in particular to power these batteries that have long time storage, and what were finding now is that the the elements that are being used to create some of these batteries are not Rare Earth Minerals and theyre elements that we have right here in the ....

CSPAN2 US Senate January 27, 2016

Resilient, whic ways that we bee are going to help both businesses and consumers. The bill includes investments in Energy Storage which helps integrate Renewable Energy. It has provisions for advanced grid technologies, which really help make our electricity grid smarter and more intelligent to move Energy Around more efficiently. It has Cybersecurity Research and development. I dont think there will be anybody here in the senate that wont support this more robust effort on cybersecurity, given the challenges and threats we face. It has a focus on new renewable technologies, which are great brickintroduce in helping to which are great breakthroughs in helping to drive some costs. The cost is basically onethird to onehalf less of newgeneration services. This ....

CSPAN2 Key Capitol Hill Hearings November 21, 2013

Partnerships we need to protect america in a dangerous world, and, of course, at the same time youre talking about how in a fragile economy some of americas leading companies, those on the cutting edge of our future, for example, with Cloud Technology the distinguished president of the senate and i have talked about. This is an area where americans have a big, big lead, and we dont want to fritter it away as we also suffer in terms of our national security, in terms of our relationships with allies. So there are high stakes here, and im very hopeful that we will have a chance to get a vote on this legislation. As i say, with senator mikulski particularly the role that she has played as chair of the appropriations committee, i think weve got a chance to jumpstart the broader debate about intelligence, weve got a chance to set the record straight about some of the comments that the intelligence leadership has made in the past that ....

CSPAN Public Affairs July 9, 2013

If we sacrifice the future, do we really take care of all the past cleanup . We hardly do whats necessary, even with current funding. And so i think its a perfect example of where the sequestration process is so counterproductive and moves america backwards. We have very imperfect choices here, and actually very dangerous choices that we are being forced to make. I think the majority would be much better suited to come back to us with a budget that allows us to do the job that the energy and water subcommittee is charged with doing. We simply cant try to solve the problem internal through the resources weve been given. Its an impossibility, and so somebodys going to be going to lose. Im sure those that came up washington. Ies in the people who are getting water assistance, they just lost money. They got no lobby here. They got none of those people from the various Nuclear Sites to come in here and lobby for them, and yet they just ....
