For Rev. Dannie Bell, serving in the U.S. Army was an honor. âI was drafted in 1966,â Bell said. âI went in during the height of the Vietnam War.â He hadnât been away from his family more than two weeks in his life before he went to basic training at the age of 19 in August, 1966. âI went to Fort Campbell, Kentucky for 10 weeks,â Bell said. âI went to Fort Dix, New Jersey for supply clerk school.â Bell ended up with a nine-day leave before heading back for duty.
