6 Worst Wearable Tech Gadgets That Failed

Nowadays, when you hear the term “wearables”, you probably think of smartwatches like the Apple Watch, fitness trackers, and VR headsets like the Oculus Rift. However, these gadgets didn’t just appear out of the ether. Several other devices had to crash and burn so modern wearables could flourish.

Wanda doesn't even know what to think anymore, but she's about to get some answers.
Marvel Studios
WandaVision took a modern turn Friday as episode 7 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe show hit Disney Plus. In the episode, titled Breaking the Fourth Wall, Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) expanded Westview's boundaries to save Vision (Paul Bettany) from certain death after he stepped outside the sitcom town.

Random: WandaVision's Latest Episode Sneaks In Some Nintendo References
WandaVision, starring Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany.
In this particular series, the pair travel through the ages of television history. This week's episode (episode seven) appears to be a parody of the American family sitcom
Modern Family
. In the teaser trailer below, you can see Wanda's children Billy and Tommy, playing a game with both Wii and GameCube controllers, not long after the 20-second mark.
While we've seen Wii controllers featured in quite a lot of things over the years, the GameCube didn't have anywhere near the same amount of success or cultural impact. So it's nice to see it get a nod like this in such a popular show. And that's two Nintendo references in the one scene.

Lost WiiWare Title Space Invaders Get Even Could Come To Switch If There's Enough Demand

Lost WiiWare Title Space Invaders Get Even Could Come To Switch If There's Enough Demand
We enjoyed
Space Invaders' more curious spinoffs, it offered a role reversal that saw us playing the invaders, destroying cities from a UFO. Unfortunately, there's currently no official method of playing it since the Wii Shop Channel shut down, making it one of many digital-only games currently lost forever.
Speaking with Wccftech about
Space Invaders Forever, Taito's game director Yuichi Toyama was asked about a potential re-release, replying:
Space Invaders Get Even was a WiiWare exclusive title where the player took the part of the long-maligned Invaders and took revenge on mankind. This is another game we've considered and if we see enough demand, we'd love to be able to release it. The biggest issue with Get Even is the control method: the game was designed to be played on the Wii Remote, so we need to work out a solution to deliver an enjoyable play experience. What do you think is the best way to go about this? We may be able to replicate the controls by making good use of the Nintendo Switch's touch screen functionality.

Can the games industry keep its COVID customers?

Theses past few weeks have been full of big numbers.
GamesIndustry.biz has (so far) covered UK, US, Japan and Australia, and they've all delivered big numbers in 2020. If we take the GSD data, which covers retail and digital sales across Europe, Australia and more*, we can see that game sales rose 28% last year. It's a result of the COVID bounce, where people who are in isolation or locked down are buying video games to keep themselves occupied, entertained, socially connected and even healthy.
And yet let's delve into those numbers for a moment and just look purely at the new games released in 2020. This isn't an exact science, with the number and quality of new games varying from year-to-year. Also some of the biggest games of 2020 -- Among Us, Fall Guys and Call of Duty: Warzone -- don't show up in the GSD data. Yet even so, with Final Fantasy 7: Remake, Cyberpunk 2077, The Last of Us Part 2, Ghosts of Tsushima, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Assassin's Creed: Valhalla and Spider-Man: Miles Morales, there were plenty of significant releases last year. And the results? 23 million new games were sold in 2020 across tracked markets, which is a drop of 6% on the 24.5 million sold the year before.
