Team GB 2021: Meet the British athletes competing in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games

Who are Team GB's athletes to watch
Team GB is represented by its largest ever delegation for an Olympic Games on foreign soil, with 376 athletes and a further 22 reserve athletes competing across 26 sports at the Tokyo 2020 Games. It is second only to the 541 athletes selected for the London Olympics in 2012.
For the first time in its 125-year history, Team GB has also taken more women than men to a summer Olympic Games.
Of the 376 athletes selected, Team GB took 201 female (53.5%) and 175 male athletes (46.5%) to Tokyo thanks to impressive qualification performances from British female athletes across sports and an increased number of female events at the Games.

Μετά την κατάκτηση του χρυσού μεταλλίου από τα κορίτσια της Αυστραλίας, σειρά πήρε και το πλήρωμα των ανδρών από την «χώρα των καγκουρό» να περάσει πρώτο την γραμμή του τερματισμού στον τελικό της τετράκωπου και να ΄πανηγυρίσει την κατάκτηση του χρυσού μεταλλίου στους Ολυμπιακούς Αγώνες του Τόκιο.
Οι Αλεξάντερ Πάρνελ, Σπένσερ Τάριν, Τζακ Χάργκριβς και Αλεξάντερ Χιλ, πέτυχαν και νέο Ολυμπιακό ρεκόρ (5:42.76), καθώς βελτίωσαν το προηγούμενο ρεκόρ που κατείχε από τους Ολυμπιακούς Αγώνες του Λονδίνου το πλήρωμα των συμπατριωτών τους (5:47.06), με τους Ντριου Τζιν, Τζέιμς Τσάπμαν, Τζος Ντάνκλεϊ-Σμιθ και Ουίλιαμ Λόκγουντ.
Τη μεγάλη έκπληξη στον σημερινό τελικό έκανε το πλήρωμα της Ρουμανίας με τους Μιχαίτα Τιγκανέσκου, Μουγκούρελ Βασίλε Σέμτσιουτς, Στεφάν Μπεραρίου και Κοσμίν Πασκάρι, οι οποίοι ανέβηκαν στο δεύτερο σκαλί του βάθρου με 5:43.13.
Οι δεύτεροι μέχρι τα τελευταία 200 μέτρα Βρετανοί (Όλιβερ Κουκ/Μάθιου Ρόσιτερ/Ρόρι Γκιμς/Σόλτο Καρνέτζι) έχασαν την πορεία τους, μπήκαν στη διαδρομή των εν τέλει τρίτων με χρόνο 5:43.60 Ιταλών (Ματέο Καστάλντο/Μάρκο ντι Κοστάντσο/Ματέο Λόντο/Τζιουζέπε Βισίνο) στα τελευταία μέτρα, για να τερματίσουν τέταρτοι σε 5:45.78.

Ένα λάθος που σίγουρα θα θυμούνται σε όλη τους την καριέρα έκαναν οι
Όλιβερ Κουκ, Μάθιου Ρόσιτερ, Ρόρι Γκιμπς και
Σάλτο Καρνέζιε. Οι τέσσερις αυτοί κωπηλάτες ήταν τα μέλη της ομάδας της

James Guy and Matthew Richards completed the line-up - and the quartet finished 0.03 seconds off the world record.
Commenting after the win, Duncan Scott said: "It's really special with these boys. Matt in third was so composed and the boys up front executed the race plans really well.
"So close to a world record in the end - if anything I'm a bit gutted."
Dean got Team GB off to a solid, if unspectacular, start, swimming just behind the United States before Guy closed the gap.

The men's four, the crew of champions since Sir Steve Redgrave claimed his last of five gold medals on a bright Sydney morning in 2000, finished fourth on the Sea Forest Waterway after almost crashing into the Italians in the next lane.
